Dragging the 223 out for a fresh start with different bullets. Do they prefer some jam or a little jump ? Chime in with experiences please thanks

I'm at .010 off with mine using CFE 223. Which for my rifle is longer than mag length, so single shot only.

Like other ELDs they are not jump sensitive but I load them at .020" off the lands and they shoot great. I definitely wouldn't jam them.
I could argue this with experience. Had a hell of a time in my 6mm creedmoor with the 108 eldm. Started at touching all the way to 50 thou jump. Ended up finding it at 10 thou jam. Was a difference from at best almost 1 inch group and shrunk it down to just under 1/4. In my 6.5 creedmoor the 140 eldm do like 20 though jump and have seen same in 2 friends 6.5 creeds.

Might be your rifle as I have had 4 different 6 Creed barrels on my match rifle and they all shot great at the factory jump of about .020” off. With multiple 6.5 barrels and the 140s I have jumped factory ammo at about .070” off and loaded my own at .020” off and the 140 ELD shot great in both. It was the same for the AMAX before as I had shot them in the 6.5 since 2008 until the ELD came out.

Have also shot 168/178 ELDs in a .308 and 180 ELDs in a 7mmRM and 75 ELDs in a .223 and none needed anywhere near jam. That’s just my experience with them also.

ETA Forgot about the 208 AMAX and ELDs I shot in my 300WM as well. Same. No jam and shot great at .020" and farther off.

I shoot Hornady ELDM in 223, 308 and 6.5. Each one wants a different jump. Mine like between .020- .005 jump. But I’d say they like being close to the lands. I’ve never jammed any of them but I’m thinking about trying it in the 6.5, it’s got the largest groups and if I don’t start getting it better I’m putting a barrel on it or selling it.

How far off have you tried them?
