.223 Imp 75 Amax loads?

Anybody running 75 amaxes in a .223 Improved? Not a ton of load data around, anybody have some good suggestions?

Not the * start with a starting load for a regular .223 * type of suggestion.

dhooks,

I just had an Ackley built and am in the process of working up loads with the 80 Sierra. There isn't a lot of load data for the heavier bullets that I can find either. My gun is a Winchester Mod. 70 with a 7.5" twist 30 inch Pac-Nor, I have started testing with Varget and can tell you that 26 grains is still too light a load. My start load was 25 and I worked up in .2 increments to 26 but it still wants more. I did not chrony the loads but the next trip it will be done. Also giving some thought to 4895 with the 80's thinking it might like a bit faster powder. What if any have you tried? The 75 A-max is on my list as well.

Ah the 223 Ackley!! What a great little rifle. I have one and what a shooter. It oftentimes outshoots a 22 BR I have. The tried loads using VV550, Reloder 15, Varget, Etc. The "bestest"
load I have found was using IMR 4895 powder and I bought this stuff as surplus 8 pound canister at a gun show. Oftentimes, you don't have to load it to the max to achieve exceptional accuracy. But also remember that I was using Berger 80 grainer naked bullets. THe best loads I found was using the IMR 4895 using 23.9 grains and giving me a shot group of .284 inch. 23.3 grains gave me a group size of .297 inch. Both are 5 shot groups. Your rifle will probably find a sweet spot somewhere in between. Velocity is right around 2450 fps to 2600 fps. I used it in 100, 300, and 500 yard competition shooting in PA, and have dusted Woodchucks out to 700 yards using this load. All of my brass was Lapua brass, fireformed, and then trimmed to 1.750 length. Good Luck. It is a hellava shooter. I was using a Hart barrel with a 1-8 twist cut to 26 inches Remington trued action, with a Jewel trigger set to about 3 ounces. AL O
