No more USPS MOs

I took PO money order as payment for a sight.
Sender checked sign for it.
With the dog barking the Postal Person left a note tab said I had to go in a sign for it. Couple day went to the PO.
Signed for it, not at the desk and stuck in my wallet.
So days later remembering the chit I tried to deposit it in line like I do everything else. Would not deposit.
A month later Made the trip to the PO and tried / to use it to buy stamps.
The machine wouldn't take the money for. The post offices's money order.
Have me a number to call.
$20.24

Your better off if you take it to your bank. Mine cashes them. I was surprised. Post Office said they didn't have enough cash on hand. Bring it back later in the day.
They always say that at my post office but yet I watch the teller next to me take in several $100 dollars at a time. They always tell me you can take it to your bank! Last time they told me they didn't have enough money I told the manager OK I'll wait! Well after about 10 min the manager told one of the tellers to cash it. He knew I called him on it. They want to sell you the money orders but don't like to cash them. I stopped using them.

That wasn't my post. I don't know how my name got into this discussion.

Dunno if I responded earlier in this thread. Don’t feel warm and fuzzy about protecting buyer and seller with a USPS MO. Several of us got scammed here by a clown from NM. I contacted the PO and they as much as said to kick dirt.
A good old fashioned personal check and let the seller wait for it to clear before shipping.

Yea, I remember back in the day people thought there would be some sort extra protection because a scam involving the post office would be a federal crime. Now we all know that the feds have more important things to chase than petty scammers like tracking parents who raise their voice at a school board meeting.

Postal money orders are a PITA. I hate when people "INSIST" on using them... send me a damn personal check, I can mobil deposit it and it'll clear the next day... Post offices will not cash them, can't mobil deposit them so I have to stuff the damn thing in an ATM and hope nothing goes wonky...

I'm not retired and have nothing better to do then make up errands for myself to run...

(just found this thread, I'm bookmarking it and sending it to the next person who insists on paying with a UPS money order, only thing worse is a Western Union...)

PO money orders should be buried in the same unmarked, shallow grave the rest of the Post Office is buried in.

Scammers best friend (on the selling end). They all bleat about how “secure” they are, when they are not in any way, shape or form. On top of that, only the Post Office can drive prosecution for mail fraud, and they don’t have time for peons like you and I (probably too busy running their little spy ring on ordinary Americans).

On top of that they are a giant pain to get.

went through the same problem. Someone sent me a 500 dollar postal money order. I only have an online bank with E*Trade.

Ended up opening a local account at a credit union.

Just sold a bow to a young man in PA. He paid with a Postal Money Order.

Do you know how hard it is to cash a MO for over $100? Holy crap! Went to 3 different post offices today and not one of them could do it. The big PO had 4 different tellers going, but not one of them had the cash in the drawer to cover the MO. Each of them had "almost enough" but Post Office regulations won't let them transfer money from one drawer to the next. How stupid is that!

I bank with NFCU and the closest branch is over 100 miles away. I guess I am going to have to mail in the deposit.

So, no more money orders for me. I can mobile deposit a personal check and have the money in my account in less than 2 days (or know if the check won't clear too). Probably going to go that route now.
I’ve just been mailing sellers old school checks by snail mail and telling them I don’t mind to wait a few days for the funds to clear.

Ive had pretty good luck doing that as well. Most of the sellers have not even waited for the check to clear. Unfortunately I have also missed a few deals because the seller insisted on a PMO for payment.

Why the hell is is it so confusing to use PayPal or Venmo? It’s instantaneous, it’s free, it’s got the same level of “protections” as a stupid money order (which is to say, none), it transfers to your bank in 24 hours,

More importantly, it involves no trips to a brick and mortar location where they may or may accept your paper instrument. Last time I let someone pay with a money order, it took three different post offices and finally a 40 minute drive to a bank before I could cash $150. I haven’t been to a bank in 10 years. It was THE LAST time I’ll take a money order for anything.

Paypal or Venmo. It’s no different than you handing me a wad of cash. There’s no need for anyone to know why you are giving me money. Let’s get in the 21st century here folks. Money order. Sheesh. Personal check? Jeezuz. Who even has a checkbook? Don’t send me anything in the mail. Make the money appear in my app so I can get on with shipping your stuff to you.

FORUM Boss: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp may NEVER be used for sale of firearms or ammunition.

Are you kidding?? PayPal has a long history of being anti gun. If you violate their policies which are intentionally vague you have zero protection. If you look at the forum rules for classified sales Forum Boss has a rule of no PayPal for guns and ammo because of that.

Take a check or MO? Use your phone app and you can deposit it without going anywhere. Yea you had to wait 3-4 days to get it.
