USPS Money orders

Easy enough to verify the validity of the money order. The USPS provides a toll free phone number, (866) 459-7822 and follow the prompts, to verify the money order. I use this to check on a money order before mailing the item I have sold. I'd be having a sit down with the bank president and maybe moving on.

This is the answer - if your bank will not cash them it is time to find a different bank or financial institution. It takes about one minute to do verify a MO/

When I need to do an internet deal. I go to the bank & have them draw a Treasures check from my personal acct. 2 benefits , it is free to most customers/recognized by other banks throughout the country & my personal check acct. number is not traveling around the country. Makes me feel better.. Mike in ct

thanks for all the encouragement but I learned a long time ago that I can't change a multibillion dollar company and I'm not going to waste my time trying.

I left several banks when I was fresh out of college, swearing never to go back, I've got the one that pisses me off the least now. I get charged zero because my business level is high enough.

I'm beginning to think money orders have outlived their usefulness and thus corporations aren't servicing them at the level they once did.

I currently have over $1000 in USPS money orders in my wallet.

I went to the local USPS branch again yesterday and asked to cash them. The lady said maybe she had enough cash to cash the smallest one ($60) but she didn't. I asked when to come back when they would have cash and she didn't know. Suggested my bank.

My bank won't cash them. they say there are too many fakes out there. They will deposit them but hold the funds 14 days. This pretty much eliminates what most people are trying to accomplish of a cash transaction.

My bank will cash checks and hand me the money.

Anyone else have trouble cashing these?

I deal with usps m.o.,s regularly...never had a problem at my bank....And I do believe they being regulated by the federal gov.are required to accept them, however they may require a 2 week certification period...

I never mentioned paypal but somehow folks have decided to bash paypal a bit in this thread.

Unfortunately, every tech company, every social media outlet, every organization targeting millenials has an official policy to be anti gun. That includes ebay, google, and probably whatever company hosts this site. You can't boycott them all.

Paypal officially is anti gun like the rest of them but is an accepted payment method on may firearms related sites. It is a bit of lipservice to keep angry millennials on social media from starting a boycott.

Paypal does millions of $ of firearms related business daily. If you are discrete, you can use them too. They provide in my opinion a great service. They protect both the seller and the buyer. They picked up a $9K+ chargeback from an unscrupulous buyer on ebay when I had a business there. They will also refund buyers funds if the product isn't delivered. But it does cost 3% for this protection. If I'm uncertain about a seller I offer to use paypal and pick up the 3% myself since paypal will refund my money if the sale is a scam. Scammers will generally go dark not reply to that suggestion. Others who are anti paypal will reply back to you that they don't accept paypal.

They will not help if you use paypal gift and get screwed so you have to take that responsibility.

I didn't suggest paypal be used instead of USPS money orders but I do accept paypal. I also accept checks. I also will continue to accept USPS money orders. I'll go to the bank today (if it is open) and deposit them. I thought I'd use them for "walking around money" but that doesn't seem to be working out.

When I get USPS money orders, I take to my local P.O. have them verify them and then take them to my bank for deposit.
No problems yet with Postal Money orders

You may not be able/willing to change banks due to your mortgage but you can set up an account at another bank that is easier to deal with on issues like this. If you shop around you can probably get another account with no monthly fee.

My local PO cashes them, (less than $150) without difficulty. See, I've played the game a couple of times, giving them all of the information they need and anything else they ask for. After a couple of experiences with honest folks, they get a lot easier to get along with.

The first time, they eye you like a hardened criminal. The second, they look at you suspiciously. After the fifth or sixth time, they remember your name and magically can get the MO verified quickly (which they always do).

I always take the item sold with me, boxed and ready, addressed to the person that sent the check, and use the funds from the check to pay the shipping.

Any MO bigger than $150 gets deposited into my bank account.

PayPal sucks and if they find out it's related to firearms they'll screw ya.

I always do business with USPS Money Order and deposit them in my account. Never had a problem. Cashing them? Why? Cash is too risky for everyone involved.

Go Old Bill Gebhardt had the right idea, perhaps. Send green. He said he never had any problems selling his Bald Eagle Rests. I sent him the cash a couple times and had no problems. I’m sure he had a lump in his throat at times but that didn’t change him from his policy. Recently a guy insisted on sending cash for something I sold him. It went off without a hitch but these days you just never know. I guess with honest people at both ends the odds of no problem are better.

Worse part of a PMO is if it gets lost you cant stop payment on it and it takes forever to get your money back.
Had one lost about a year ago. Waited 30 days I think, filled out the paperwork, got a check in the mail. Not much of a problem!

Was using cash for small purchases, got comfy I guess. Mailed $70 for brass. Receiver said letter, no money. That pretty much ended the cash for me.
