Keeping Primers Dry

FWIW I have a neighbor who turned 90 recently and decided he was done reloading. I was able to force some cash in his hand for his primers, circa early-'70s. This is in Coastal Oregon mind you and they were stored in cigar boxes in his RV garage. Every time it rained the floor was half-covered by water for the duration of some 50-60 years. Every primer I have tried still works as advertised with no issues other than they are a bit tighter in the brass I am using be it pistol or rifle.
I stopped worrying about primers. That said I store primers in a medium large plastic container with the latches removed so that if any primer that might ignite on it's own would have a way to vent. Same as my powder bunker.

I reload in my workshop which is heated, but not air conditioned. I keep my powder and primers in the house and just bring out what I need for a reloading session. I keep primers and powder in two different wooden boxes made out of 2X material planed down to 1".

Dessi packs are not necessary, and, if done wrong, they bring water rather than just pull it.
Using bags of barrier film plastic is less risky if you think there is a chance of water or flooding.
Regular poly bags are not water barrier if it hits the fan. Use ones that are barrier film such as ones made of Aclar for example. Freezer bags can work if they are labeled as water barrier and heat welded shut. If there is a question in your mind, place a humidity indicator card inside in view.

I normally store my primers in these moisture/air tight boxes from Wal-mart. The one on the right is for Federal and the one on the left is for all others. These boxes have rubber seals around the top of the lid so as to seal out any moisture/air. Never had any issues with primers not going bang.

That orange box looks to be of a very handy size. Wal-mart, you say? I'm going to have to track some down.
