DEON announces the March-X 8-80X56 HM WA X "MAJESTA" with videos

If you are not going to SHOT, where can I see one?
There was not going to be a Majesta at SHOT, except perhaps for the prototype that was used by Tim to win the US Nationals F-Open LR championships a few months back. The prototype does not have the same knobs and the finish is different and so on. The High Master Lens system, however, is the same. You just can't appreciate it in the SHOT show halls.

How does the super Ed glass compare to the nightforce competition glass?
That depends on the conditions. I've stated several times in the past that when conditions are good or great, all scopes look fine and top tier glass looks amazing. But when conditions deteriorate, and you are forced to dial down because the target looks like a pulsating mass of mishappen protoplasm. that's when the Super ED glass comes into its own. Don't get me wrong, the IQ will deteriorate, but you can stay at high magnification because the rings are distinct and you can actually place the reticle where you want, repeatably.

DEON was the first manufacturer to use ED glass in riflescopes about 15 years ago and they are the first and still the only ones using Super ED glass in riflescopes. They also learned to enhance the shimmer protection for the Majesta as we saw with Tim's performance at the Nationals.

Ok. Let's talk reticles.

The Majesta, with its wide-angle eyepiece, required a new series of reticles. You will notice that all the Majesta MOA reticles have the letter W as the first letter after MTR-.

I had been working on a design for an F-class specific reticle for quite some time. It culminated into a design that was further adjusted after the 2022 US Nationals in Phoenix, when Tim won the championship with the Majesta. We were able to finalize the measurements and confirm the design with DEON who had decided they wanted to produce an F-class discipline engineered reticle for their new Majesta. It is called the MTR-WFD reticle, and you can see the design at the website.

Because it is a new concept, we decided to create a video that explains the details of the reticle, and we also created another short video in which Tim and I discuss the reticle, and then Tim takes us through a 3-string match showing how the features of the reticle will benefit the F-class competitor. These videos will be available soon. Kudos to DEON to have the confidence to produce the MTR-WFD F-Class reticle. This is a company that actually listens to their customers and users and incorporates their recommendations in their superb products.

March is also introducing other reticles with she Majesta, each one of which is designed for the ultra-wide field of view of the Majesta. These reticles are more conventional and are excellent. If the MTR-WFD did not exist, I would probably select the MTR-W2 for F-class.

This is the MTR-WFD. The red potion is illuminated. In real life, it will appear very black.

I had a PM II 12-50x56 before 'upgrading' to the 10-60HM. I hated the short eye relief on the Schmidt, which is why I switched. The eye relief just abt fine on the March 10-60HM.

In the specs, the eye relief on the 8-80 HMWA is right in between the above 2 scopes. This might be too short for me, and my free recoil style of shooting (FTR). I would have loved the wide angle and other features in this.

Also, no MTR3 reticle? I like my reticles a tad thick..Any chance for mtr3 showing up in the future?

I installed the prototype on my F-TR rig yesterday and sighted it in in preparation for the 1000-yard match next weekend. It works just for me. Reviewing your question, I wonder what kind of sadomasochistic lunatic would be shooting F-TR in free recoil. I shudder to even think about it. I will state upfront that I am a recoil wuzz. I love shooting, I hate recoil-induced (or any other form of) pain. I hug my Arrowbee, and it treats me "gently".

You will have noticed that the W series of reticle is a repitition of many of the existing MTR reticles. The MTR-3, 4 and 5, came sometime after the MTR-1 and 2. In fact, my first March scope is a March-X 5-50X56 which started life with an MTR-2 reticle about 10 years ago. I used it for many years and then in 2019, I notices that my eyesight had deteriorated to the point I could no longer see the central dot on the MTR-2. By that time, DEON had released the MTR3, 4 and 5 reticles, the thicker versions. I sent my scope to DEON and they replaced the MTR-2 with an MTR-5 for a couple hundred dollars and I had it back within a month. The same scope that was perfect for my vision as a young man, was not perfect for my vision as an old geezer. DEON can easily swap the reticle for a SFP design at any time.

It's nice to know that when you spend that much money for a scope it will last a very long time. The March-X 5-50X56 is on my backup F-TR rifle, still going strong.

So, I would say there is a very good chance there will be the equivalent of the MTR-3 and MTR-5 for the Majesta. Just give them time, and at least get the production started. Oh, and also to make sure they do not forget, tell them directly. Go to the website, click on "Contact Us" and fill out the form and tell them you need the thicker reticle.

I was under the impression that F class rules state you must shoulder the weapon, am I in error ?

Guys, I was just reading along and the free recoil remarks caught my attention so I asked a simple question on an open forum, no big deal.
It was fine. Your attention was properly piqued, as was mine, but I elected to pay it little mind opting for a more mischievous comment about it.

Let's stay on topic going forward and silently condemn the action described earlier.

Is the W dot reticle intended for benchrest
I do not know what benchresters like for reticles. I "think" (but do not know) that DEON is trying to provide was many types of reticles as possible for the Majesta. Reticles can be so personal and what appeals to some may turn off others and so on. You can certainly contact them and ask.

Right now, I'm only focused on the MTR-WFD.

According to the March website, they are showing a W-Dot reticle option, which looks identical to the discontinued Nightforce CH-3.
