KG-12 Test Results?

Yesterday there was a thread that linked to test results of KG12, I found it in a search on the net:
I read the results yesterday, and Jackie commented on it, but I can't find it here anymore. I wanted to see if anyone else had a comment on the test.

This test rated KG12 about 10 times better than 37 other copper/bore cleaners. I find that suspicious at best.

That was my observation. Either KG-12 is absolutely phenomenal, or all of those others are no better than distilled water.

For what it is worth, I just bought 2 bottles of Shooter’s Choice because there doesn’t seem to be any Butches anywhere.

KG-12 actually is pretty phenomenal. In my barrels, it removes way more copper than Butches and doesn’t stink up the house in the process.

I've done pretty much the same test and yes, kg12 was by far the winner. That said, it reacts differently with copper than the typical blue/green we are so accustomed to seeing. For that reason, I still like Patch Out best for routine cleaning but if I have a severely fouled bbl, I keep some kg12 around for those. The bore scope tells the truth but if I think it's clean with kg12, I go back with patch out to look for color.

It's kind of funny; I typically use Boretech Cu2+, but decided to try KG-12 just because.

My experience is that KG-12 is great on heavy copper buildup. It doesn't change color, so any copper coming out looks like brown streaks on the patch. I typically run a wet patch, let it sit for a few minutes and then short-stroke several wet patches up the length of the barrel, rinse 2 - 3x with some other bore cleaner on wet patches, then dry and evaluate. I don't really care for how the stuff dries should any liquid be left (usually on the muzzle or underside of the barrel where it drips.) It forms an almost plastic-like substance that is kind of difficult to get off.

So after a few months of using both solvents, I ended up with a little light copper wash in front part of the barrel after a cleaning session, and went at it with KG-12. No change. Tried again; still there. Switched to Boretech, and it seemed to take care of it.

Bottom line: It's turned to a love/hate relationship. Sometimes it seems to be a magic elixir for removing copper, other times it stubbornly refuses to do anything. Really bottom line: I have no idea; Still use both, and resort to Iosso on occasion.

I agree and I like Boretech too. I just got used to using the patch out and accelerator..and see no reason to change, for routine cleaning stuff. Both work very well. Same test showed them pretty equal, but the linked test included neither, unless I missed it.

To be fair, I've never used KG12, but I have used many of the other tested solvents. It was the numbers that is my issue. With the KG12 scoring 7.8 and 9.5, only 2 other cleaners tested barely made it to whole numbers, the rest were next to nothing. I just can't buy that.

I've log forgotten my numbers Wayne, but the test results you linked..those numbers don't surprise me much. It's crazy how much more effective the kg12 was with my test, too. I'm not saying the test protocol tells the whole story but my test was soaking bullets and weighing before and after. THAT test, was pretty dramatic. Try it. I think I used plastic bottle caps for cups.

As an aside (and I'm not saying this is indicative of skewed results), but in fairness, the text at top of the report should be noted:

"KG Industries is the leading developer of Mil-Spec weapon maintenance products"

"CORETAC SOLUTIONS INC. is the Canadian distributor of KG Industries products"

Remind me to check on these tomorrow. Left is straight patch out. Right is kg12.

My test didn't say that and the one I just posted won't either. Lol!
Only difference in this test and the one I did years ago is the kg12 is older. Might be the same bottle. The patch out is pretty new.
