KG-12 Test Results?

When I see copper , Kg12 overnight, a few strokes with a brush and I am done.

Also, Kg12 on a patch in the breech overnight will soften carbon rings.

Update....After 24 hrs the patch out has removed .2gr of copper and the kg12 .1. I just refilled the caps with more fluid than before. I think it turned to syrup, pretty much in both. I think that might've affected the results but no idea if or by how much. It may be that the kg12 was old, too. I just know when I did this same test a few years ago, it wasn't even close but we'll try again. Either way, both were affective but not what I expected yet.

KG12 is water based I believe so maybe evaporation is coming into play and affecting the results?

Not sure. I weighed, rinsed a dried them off and put a lot more liquid in both this time. We'll see what happens by tomorrow afternoon. I will say the tip of the one in kg12 (hp) was beginning to visibly just go away but total weight loss goes to patch out so far.

Not my point at all. Read my other posts. I think it may be old or both had become thick, almost like syrup. Either way, we'll see tomorrow and call it good unless someone wants to try with a fresh bottle, anyone?. Not sure what or why.
I think you are doing good by analyzing the accuracy of your testing, identifying errors, and honing in the unforseens. That's good experimentation.

You got that right! I call them the "Blue bleeding monsters!"

I have a ruger no 1 in 270 that copper plates everything inside the barrel. Kg12 is the only thing id consider using lol.
On my old savage 22-250 i tried the kroil and jb bore paste and it didnt work much at all. Kg12 cleaned that up quick so i could sell it

I know it is not your point as like myself we have no interest in who sells the most product but we do know results are manipulated to say what a particular seller wants. BTW thanks for doing this.

the question is----

how fast do these various solvents lose effectiveness after opening? there has to be some loss.
I agree. I have had first hand experience with an old can of Wipe Out. By the time I got around to using it, it was dead, as in did nothing. You could tell, smell, appearance. It went from foam to liquid fairly quickly.

I feel certain this bottle of kg12 is not what it once was. Still keeping up with patch out, for the most part. I'll weigh them again this afternoon.

I also found KG12 seemed to loose it's effectiveness over time once opened, even with the nozzle tightly applied. It was as good as anything I've tried before initially, but I noticed a few months later it just wasn't shifting the copper deposits anymore and I went back to an ammonia containing solvent which from the sniff test doesn't seem to have lost it's potency.

What color is the KG12 y’all are using? After reading this thread, I remembered that I had an unopened bottle of it. Thought I’d give it a try. It’s been in the shop for a couple of years and when I applied it to a patch, it is BRIGHT orange. It does absolutely nothing in the bore, even after letting it set for a while. I’m thinking it must be past its’ “use by” date? Just wondering if the orange color was an indicator that it had gone bad? Thanks

I just got done soaking a barrel in Sweets. The bottle is about 4 years
old and will still take your breath away. I have a fresh unopened one
if the first one ever goes stale. The new one was given to me from a
friend that switched over to Bore Tech Cu+. Another non ammonia
brew.
