Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

And it's been said "solar panels" give up after 5 or so years? And the recycle is only about 5% (?) so the rest goes in the land fill. The same place for the used up Nuclear fuel rods?? Guess the U.S. could load up all the fuel rods, used up Tesla batteries and worn out Solar panels, make a midnight run and drop all of it at dead Russian Nuclear power plant??

As unpleasant as it may appear, most of, if not all major manufacturers have committed to all electric vehicles by a certain date. This may include light duty trucks. Gasoline and Diesel will likely be an offering in larger vehicles, but the limited production, cost of fuel, and tax penalties will discourage ownership to all but the few that lighter duty electric trucks are not an option.

Electric vehicles are not going away. In time, when battery capacity, charging, national grid, and electricity production concerns are history, the electric vehicle will be the norm.

I am not cheerleading for the EV, just trying to have a realistic view of what and why this is happening.

It's going to be interesting to see how it shakes out for the mid/lower incomes that buy 10 year old used cars, which will now have hefty battery replacement costs, because they can't afford 30-50K for a new car.

What electrical generation facilities are being planned for equating this amount of energy consumption? Similar question regarding the distribution grid?

Probably nothing. We'll just ration that too.

The first letter of your last name:
A-G: You get to charge up on Monday/Thursday.
H-M: Tuesday/Friday
N-Z: Wednesday/Saturday

If you vote Democrat, you get to charge up on Sunday too.

That is just it, the left wing nuts don't want everyone to have a personal vehicle. They don't want private ownership of anything. So price doesn't matter.

If the fossil fuel industry launched an information campaign to expose the costs, pollution, limited availability of rare earth components, and how energy is produced to power these so-called "eco friendly" pieces of equipment it would have value. But I suppose with the influence of government through the provision of subsidies they can prevent that type of exposure.

The left is expert at controlling the narrative on just about every hot topic out there.

If you vote Democrat multiple times in any given election, as the trend is now, you get to charge every day.

Not likely in my lifetime;)!
I said the same thing until my shining light, Dodge (FCA) just died when they announced this is the last year for v-8 muscle cars. 23' will be the very last of the Chargers and Challengers due to the unachievable emission standards set forth by you guessed it, our government... We are being forced in EV vehicles whether we like it or not.... They said the v-8 trucks we remain for a few more years but will undergo major engineering changes and likely be converting into EV hybrids..... Oh boy! I can't wait to see what that means... NOT! What ever happened to be able to make our own decisions on what we want not being forced into the cattle shoot?

According to news reports Ca. just passed a bill that requires all new vehicles in that state to be EV by 2035. That gives Ca. 13 years to get their grid fully redone to accommodate the new needs.
I wonder who will pay the biggest part of that bill?

Californians are going crazy from breathing all the polluted air blowing over from China! While the US goes electric (low emissions) China is building more fossil fuel powered power plants than ever. I bet they are real clean facilities too : ( *sarcastic*

And WE in the U.S. have to deal with all the greenies telling us about pollution??

I wonder.:rolleyes: All the wild fires caused by bad/defective equipment, the power Companies get sued and WE the rate payers get the bill. You expect less? SS,DD!
Go Solar and you'll still pay for the transmission lines. No such thing as a "Free lunch".

Did see an electric pick up backing out of a charging station yesterday. I'll have to do some digging and see if I can figure what it was. Nice looking?? Didn't think so. :(Nothing like a Dodge, Chevy, GMC or Ford. Dead giveaway, no grill.

It happened when citizens starting acting/believing like we are subjects! We consent to be governed, and therefore, can choose to elect different leaders that will take a different path. We the citizens better do that very soon!
This is exactly what is going to have to happen!
I think some people need to get out of the city sometimes and realize there’s a whole different world outside of those city limits.
