Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

If they stop producing fossil fuel vehicles, then the Permian/Delaware basins might have 200 years of production. Problem is at what price. There is a difference in proven and probable reserves. Probable might become proven at $500/bbl. But it has to be technologically and economically produceable to be proven reserves. Hell at $5000/bbl they may strip mine the entire area to 10,000 ft deep.

I'll be second to last then

Gasoline/Diesel at $10/gal, government subsidies for EV's bringing the cost way down, these stalwart individuals will be cruising with a cord.

Several years ago, some friends (oil & gas producers) kinda found a loophole and with the subsidies bought 4 very fancy golf carts and after tax breaks and subsidies, the cars cost around $40 each.

In that part of west Texas there's a good chance nobody would notice. If they did they wouldn't care..... unless if filled up with water. Then they'd be really happy! Texans really like water a lot.

Other than extremely high levels of H2S in the San Andreas and other formations might make water sports a one and done affair. Probably reduce the population from El Paso to Ft. Worth.

Yes beware our faithful elected representatives made the car companies put 8 year limited warranties on electric cars. Most quickly slapped 70-75% capacity on the warranty(battery is still considered ok at 75% range). So your 300 mile battery is still good if it gets 225(75%), but hit year 8 and replacement is all on you. Most also have a mileage warranty, double edge sword to fall on. Good luck to California with the pending solar panel hazardous waste problems, seems like 25 years has caught California unprepared for recycling dead solar panels. Cadmium, lead, arsenic. Recyclers can only recover 3-4$ per panel, so taxpayers will have to subsidize costs, just as they did to get people to install them. On the bright side Biden will act on emergency powers(climate change) before the fall elections. Allowing him a whole range of powers that the constitution normally protects citizens from. He can(could)even change election results, limit speech, confiscate bank accounts, block media coverage.

I put in a reservation on an F-150 Lightning in May 2021. My dealer just got his first Lightning demonstrator in and I test drove it yesterday. It’s a fabulous truck. Lots of power, extremely quiet, and handles really well. I hated having to bring it back to the dealer. I really wanted to keep it.

Respectfully submitted,

1. If, like me, you keep a car for 15+ years, you should research battery life for the choice of vehicle.

2. Look at the cost of battery pack replacement and repair after the warranty expires.

3. Check how to enter car if the battery goes completely dead -- this has been an issue with Teslas.

4. Seriously consider how and when you would use the auto-drive feature. This depends on sensors that can fail or be blocked by rain, road debris etc. The was an incident in my state. Tesla driver was using the auto-drive feature. It failed and drove him at full speed into a concrete lane barrier and he was killed instantly.

5. Understand that true range is significantly less with cold weather and with hills.

6. Look at the resale value AFTER the cars go off warranty. You might be surprised.

7. Toyota is coming out with EVs with solid state batteries. Promised date is "late 2025". That could significantly affect the value of Teslas.

8. I have friends with Toyota Prius hybrids. These Prius cars have proved exceptionally reliable, and one has over 350,000 miles on the original battery pack, and the owner says she averages about 48 mpg.
My wife had a Prius for 9 years, she like the car well (as you can see by length of ownership!), I hated it, to small to get into and to low to the ground. Yes 48 MPG is great but I'll take my King Ranch any day!

BMW M1 race car. Approx 1/38 scale that came with a German made slot car race set I brought back in the 80's. Its all that survived. That is the extent of electeic car ownership for me. Good luck to all.

Headed into town this AM to pick up a few things. Noticed major work going on at the side of the parking lot. Backed up and got a REAL GOOD LOOK.
Maybe 15 +Tesla charging stations being installed.
Wonder if Tesla is paying for the install or the Store is footing the bill? My guess? Te$la's is in it for the $$$. That's the only grocery store (so far) in town that I've seen with charging stations.
Have seen one Tesla parked there so someone that works at that store owns one.
Couple of charging stations in the public parking lots and a couple in a few motels.

Im not sure whats in it for the store from tesla themselves, but a tesla owner charging at a tesla charger pays thru their subscription- free or charge your card whatever deal you have worked out with your dealer. Whoever has the chargers gets a significant tax break and refund. It was like $5500 cash back for my level 2 charger at home and an independent guy in little rock got $15k per charger refund plus the local utility (which i work for and was in on the deal) gets a huge credit on his power bill for 5yrs. We get $10k refund from uncle sam for every level 2 charger we install at our offices too. They make it very adventageous to install at your place of business, so everybody with a parking lot- collect your money while you can.

You mean HIS HANDLERS will. He's not smart enough to figure anything out on his own. Been living on the government tit for how many years and got NOTHING to show for it, unless you can count China and Ukraine in his hip pocket? (move along, nothing to see here)
But, but, but he has a 98% approval rating with the Democrats? And his son Hunter is the smartest man he knows?

When someone puts up "charging stations", there's $$$$ involved.
Attract more customers?
Make more $$$ by selling electricity?
But where's the electricity coming from?
From the charging station. DUH!!
How's that going to work when everybody plugs in at night with rolling black or brown outs? Asking for a friend.
And the stupid SOB wants to do away with fossil fuel?
EVs in time but not quite yet. ;)
Still waiting to see the cost comparison between electricity from home plug in or charging station and gas at the pump.
And not much said about "battery replacement"/recycle charges.
And last I heard, Solar Panels required on any New builds and I wonder about remodels? "Recycled panels" only worth a few $$ compared to new cost.
That's like recycle charges on plastic bottles. You pay it when you buy but can't find a place to get your $$ back?
