7-6.5 PRC DIES ??

The 6.5 PRC Micron dies at Bullet Central will work with the proper bushing. Pricey, but great sizing dies.

7 SAUM Wilson seating dies look like they will work. I'll let you know when mine shows up.

Update - Case base to shoulder is about .030" longer for the PRC, compared to the SAUM case. I chucked the Wilson seating die base on a benchtop lathe, put a 9/16" end mill into the tailstock and took the center of the base down .031". Works just fine.

Fill me in here fellas. Is this cartridge being wildcat'd because Lapua is making 6.5 PRC brass? Because I don't see much difference in cases between the 7 SAUM and the 6.5 PRC. I see the body taper is slightly different, which I'm sure is good for a few grains of water less than the SAUM. But they are extremely similar? Or does the slightly less capacity bridge some sort of gap between the 284 and SAUM?

In part, it would seem. You may want to read this thread on the topic. Some very thoughtful, talented and experienced folks think it worthy of exploration. The difference in capacity, the 7mm-6.5 PRC being less, is among the reasons, as is some pretty good brass available for the parent case (ADG, Lapua, Peterson). The trick is finding some!

For reference, my Whidden 6.5 PRC bushing die sizes neck to .310 with out bushing installed . Reamer I’m shooting for 7 PRC has a .313 NK . I would be curious on neck dimensions( FL bushing ) of other die brands if fellas could post .
As previously mentioned in earlier post , will likely have to have die opened up slightly.

The less powder you have to use to get to 2920ish the better, similar to a bra or saum improved concept

I think this is very much a 6BR(284) vs Dasher(SAUM) vs BRA(PRC) discussion.

Just in a 7mm flavor.

Just wait a few more months. Hornady is releasing 7 PRC this summer/fall and saami standardization will make life easier.

Has there been any info on case dimensions though? The 6.5 and 30 PRC are different case sizes. Just like the 30 and 338 RCM weren’t the same. So their 7 might not be the same as the 6.5.

I’d be surprised and disappointed if it’s just a necked up 6.5. I’m guessing they put tge shoulder longer than 6.5 but shorter than 300 to keep the capacity proportional to bore. I’m expecting a long action, magnum boltface cartridge just shorter than 300prc

Except the factory Hornady 7 PRC will be based on the 300 PRC case and not the 6.5 PRC case. It’ll be a long action cartridge and not a short.
