Does anyone else shoot varmints with Ruger falling block rifles? I'll see if I can get a couple pics of mine to show up. The first pic is from Montana PD shoot June 2013. The No.3 on left of table is my only long range rifle. I was shooting across the pond at dogs 4-600 yds. Barrel is Shilen #7HV contour 8" twist .224, cal. is my wildcat .219DW PDK, 30-30 R-P case 1.900 long, .270 long .250 dia. neck, 35* shoulder, load is 75gr A-Max, 34.0gr H4350, 3200fps. Scope is 6.5-20x40 Leupold, Kepplinger set trigger at 10 oz.
The next day had hit at 709 yds my longest at the time. The next year tried for 1000 yd but came up short with a longest hit of 915. I was up 23" from a 200 yd zero at 915 yds.
I was switching off with the No.3 on the right on dogs out to about 400 yds. It is my second .204 Wasp. another wildcat of mine. Barrel is Pacnor, Target weight,11" twist, 30-30 WW case 1.770 long neck is .250 long .232 dia., load is 39gr Blitzking, 30gr N140 or Varget, 3900 fps. Scope is 6-24x44 Sightron SII Big Sky, Kepplinger set trigger 10 oz.
Second pic is from S.D. May 09 PD shoot. First time out with my first .204 Wasp. Fire forming brass with 40gr V-Max at 4040 fps with 29.5gr N135. After some 500+yd hits earlier in the day, I had two hits at 634 yds my longest with a .20 cal. Barrel is Krieger #18 contour, 11" twist, Kepplinger trigger, Leupold 6.5-20x40.
Third pic is the No.1 that became my first .204 Wasp. It was already rebarreled to .225WW when I bought it at a LGS in 1995. The 2" 15X Unertl scope had a very small dot which wasn't ideal for PD shooting but I enjoyed shooting it because it was different and I liked the way it looked.
