COVID-19 Vaccine -- Over 70 Age

Haven't received a cell phone call from the local area code since I signed up. If one of us had, my wife would certainly have answered hers no doubt, since she has a lot of local important calls on her cell due to the organizations she's involved in. My point was that every other government contact in the city or county shows up as such on caller ID when they call. I've seen that for a fact on more than one occasion. Same with all the other healthcare systems I've been contacted by. This process, not so much, so they obviously are not calling from a city or county office. Easy option would have been for them to post on the County's website the number they would call from and make it easy to just set up a contact in the phone so there wouldn't be any doubt. FYI, a major fraud has been perpetrated here in town recently on a spoofed local bank phone number, so it happens.

They have a lot of literature on a drug they haven't approved. There is no drug that is approved by the FDA for covid.
I received my first Moderna shot at the VA. Then I was handed 3 pages of info. The number of times it was said that this nor any other drug was FDA approved was impressive.
It was offered under EUA (emergency Use Authorization).
I decided to get the shot based on what my doctors said AND my own thoughts.
I have searched for any other inoculations or vaccines that in the past were issued under this EUA.
No luck so far.
I am old enough to remember the polio situation in the 50's. Don't recall any government involvement meaning governors saying who got the Salk vaccine or when.
Nothing is ever 100% guaranteed. But I think every individual is exactly that...an individual with unique health concerns. An educated conversation with your MD coupled with your own thoughts results in an informed decision.
(and how much land Gates own doesn't interest me nor factor one bit into any health choices I make)
My side effects were zero. (10 days ago)

I think that it is astounding how disinterested that the media and "experts" are concerning non-vaccine treatments... prophylactic and otherwise, that have been proven successful and inexpensive in the treatment of this bug. jd

. In this day and age of phone number spoofing and fraud if nothing shows up on Caller ID I don't answer my cell phone, and according to people on the local forum nothing but area code and number shows up when they call to set an appointment for you, brilliant system. The phone number to call for inquiries into the process never gets answered, according to a lot of people that keep trying to get information.
On my cell phone if I receive a call the area code and phone number show up but a name only shows up if I have that number and their name in my contact list. So maybe you should try putting their name and number in your contact list.

Our illustrious Mayor filled out the paperwork wrong and Kerrville isn’t getting any vaccine. I would have to go to San Antonio to even have a chance. They’re giving out a whopping 9 thousand doses a day, two days a week, when they have doses. With a population of 2.3 million, I give it a year!
There's multiple optios for COVID-19 vaccination outside the VA in Bexar County (San Antonio) and Kerrville. Anyone meeting TexasGroup 1A and / or 1B requirements can use these sources regardless of veteran status. You may already be aware of these but in case you or other board members can use this info here it is.

HEB Pharmacy has been administering COVID-19 vaccinations, typically in comunties that aren't large cities. Kerrvile has one such site to watch for vaccine availability.

The University Health system connected to UT has been dispensing over 4,000 doses per day, combined first and second doses, of the Pfizer vaccine here in SA. That's where I got my first dose January 27 and my second dose is scheduled for Wednesday morning February 17. They received national recognition for their performance and have been named a model COVID-19 vaccination provider, meaning others here should emulate their performance (unlikely though from city & county services here). I downloaded their UH GO app in January and received a push notification on my phone at 6 PM on January 22. I immediately went to their website and after refreshing a number of times got through to the registration page. I picked a midweek appointment figurig higher competition for other days, and had wrapped up my registration just as the mayor and Judge Wolf announced registration was currently open at 6:18 PM. I was in & out in 30 minues including post vaccination observation period. Super streamlined, extremely efficient, and properly staffed operation at Wonderland Mall of the Americas. I'd encourage you to download that UH GO app if driving to SA is an option for you. They administered their 1000,000 dose last week among the 186,000 doses administered thus far in Bexar County. All waiting in line is done indoors, inside the mall. Typical reported total in to out times have been 30 minutes, like my experience. The lines move briskly.

The city & county is in charge of a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Alamodome. Local info says they open this system Mon - Thu for reservations when vaccine is available. When open, registration is available both by phone call and online. I've read folks are allowed to wait in their vehicles until called inside instead of everyone standing in lines.

WellMed is providing vaccinations at two SA Senior Citizen Centers, registration is by phone calls only.

CVS has begun taking reservations for COVID-19 vaccination at some of their Texas locations. Kerrville isn’t currently on their list but hopefully they'll add it at some point.

Persistence is key whether trying to register online or by phone call for these services in the San Antonio area. When Wellmed opens their phone call only system, it's typically open more than one day in a row now because phone call only takes much more time. Getting through to make a connection to reserve an appointment anywhere, both online and by phone call, is somewhat random when systems are open for registration.

Best wishes to everyone needing to secure an appointment to get vaccinated.

My wife and I keep trying to get signed up for the vaccine everyday , I'm 74 she is 72 , New York is just a nightmare. On the other hand my daughter is a PA and worked in the covid ward , cought the virus back in March , she is in good shape , exercise all the time but was really hammered by the virus , was home sick for 6 weeks . She had her shots last months . Just yesterday she told us , since the vaccine she has diarrhea , scheduled for different doctors appointments , and just yesterday she let us know she had a silent heart attack, the virus causes clots , most likely it came from that. I know other first responders that are vaccinated had very minor side effects if any. We both had the virus so we hopefully are safe for a time . It's horrible what this China virus did to our country. We're looking like a see of eyes , no one has a face any more .

I’m not following your logic. Could you please explain?

I'm simply saying that there seems to be ample evidence that there are therapies to treat or prevent the serious effects of this virus. We have talked about considerably about them here -- The Zelenko Protocol, Ivermectin, Hydroxi, ... it pretty much seems like the mere mention of them spell doom for the publicity of any doctor or front line worker who advocates them.

I live in a state where our governor has done nothing but thwart the availability, use, or experimentation of these possible God-sends. You might say that any claimed success with these non-approved drugs is simply anecdotal, but many of us would disagree. jd

Thanks, and you are correct. The intelligent and rational side of me says receiving a $25 vaccine that is over 90% effective is the right choice. BTW, my other side agrees.

I'm in the same age group in CO. On Feb 8 when I became eligible, I thought I will be aggressive at trying to get vaccinated. On the 9'th I got scheduled for today at 10:30. First shot done, 2'nd one already scheduled.

Initially I intended to not get the vaccine. Thought my exposure potential is pretty low, and I'll continue my safe practices (which include staying away from those that choose not to wear a mask). But changed my mind. Didn't see any upside in not getting the vaccine, and lots of downside. And I never get a flu shot.

I don't care if anyone is wearing a mask, but I want everyone out of my personal space and six feet away. I was that way before COVID--social distancing has always been a way of life for me. I always get flu shots and will get the COVID vaccine when they get to 60 yd olds.

I survived the Anthrax vaccinations several years ago, and the flu shots only bothered me a little in the 1980s.

When I get the COVID vaccine, I'll take ibuprofen unless they tell me not to. That's how I eliminated symptoms after those first few flu shots. I think they may have been using live virus back then, but I haven't had an issue with a flu shot in 30+ years,

NYS is screwed up, we are on about 5 lists, there is no central clearing house. DUMB

We have been taking a zinc supplement and social distance. Couple of my older friends have had it and ended up in the ICU and nearly died. I will take the vaccine even though I worry about complications down the road a year or two. I have heard Ivermec and Hydroxi are treatments if you catch it.. however the hatred for Trump is so great they will never admit Hydroxi works. And they are both cheap, so can't be any good!!!!

Hmmmm... don’t see those on his list.

I'm still loosing friends to the virus , yesterday I got the call my friend passed and 1 week ago they lost their Son to the virus. It's absolutely horrible here. The ones in charge are so lame , throw them out of office.

Trump took hydroxychloroqine at the first of the pandemic. I have taken it in the past as well as a lot of international travelers for over 100yrs but it just became dangerous this past year.

I'm over 70, and I had the good fortune to be notified that the local health district might have extra vaccine since the first priority groups didn't all show up. So I got the Pfizer vaccine. Before that I read many article to Get More Information. I had no reaction from it whatsoever, not even a sore arm. I don't think I'm 100% immune, even after the second shot, still, it's very much a relief to be "prepped" to combat this nasty coronavirus.

I may be in error on this however my understanding is that all the current "Covid vaccines" are still considered as experimental and not approved by the FDA? As previously mentioned by others deciding to obtain this vaccine is an individual choice and at this point being in excellent health at age 72 I have decided not to take it.

If you had a wife like mine and she seen that statement you my friend would be living in your shop like
I've been for the last 2 months, or be chased 24 hrs. a day with a can of Lysol.

Forum Boss: There was evidence that ZINC, when inside human cells, could reduce the process of COVID-19 viral replication. However, Zinc resists going into cells. It was thought that Hydroxychloroquine, being an IONOPHORE, could help Zinc get inside cells where it does its job.

You may want to go a Google search on Zinc and Covid-19. You may be surprised. What I concluded is that, at a minimum, you do NOT want to be Zinc deficient. Likewise Adequate Vitamin D seems to be valuable for general immune system health.

Yep, I am posting the the following to add context to your post.

Why is this medication prescribed?

Hydroxychloroquine is used to prevent and treat acute attacks of malaria. It is also used to treat discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE; a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE; a chronic inflammatory condition of the body) and rheumatoid arthritis in patients whose symptoms have not improved with other treatments. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of drugs called antimalarials. It works by killing the organisms that cause malaria. Hydroxychloroquine may work to treat rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus by decreasing the activity of the immune system.
