Tack driver live results

Every discipline has some quirk to make it what it is and those are what make such that one type gun or strategy works better at that game. We shoot a match using clay birds at 400 yards. Ten rounds to break 8 clays. No wind flags makes it a game where bc of the bullet reigns king. The aussies shoot a fly target at 500 meters. Essentially like 600 yard benchrest where each target is scored for group and score. U get 8 rounds on the bench. Three for sighters on a splash plate. Use them as u wish.
there is always a way to sort of rule any gun i. Or out of a match. No long range gun will agg with a ppc at 100 or 200. Likewise a ppc is not going to get er done at 1000..

so, we can argue it forever with no resolution. This match is sort of a mix to make it i teresting to all. Group, score. Mid range distance. Bring one bring all. U have a good shooter? Bring it and see how it stacks up. The short range guys rang it up this year. Might be different next year. Or maybe not. Thats why this match is interesting.
Joe.

Right before the match started Jim called a meeting to express the main purpose of the shoot whereby any and all disciplines can and have come together for the intent of putting aside any various notion and or comparable indifference with the main objective in having a shooters reunion whereas in this gathering we have comraderae with the thrill we all share in competetive spirit having as much fun as we can stand. That is exactly what happened. We all smiled and laughed when our 30 br drifted 15 inches or we couldnt see our 6mm holes for in the end the fun superceded all.

Only one way I know to find out
Why would I, when was told you can't use a spotting scope and to stay home. Besides it is so stacked in favor of the short range score shooter it isn't worth the expense. All the BS. about the number of shooters it was limited to. was the reason he didn't allow the spotting scope was it would take up time... The short range guys gave up nothing, the rest gave up everything....... jim

If I could design a match there would be no flags or spotting scopes. You can read mirage through your scope or watch the grass or trees. One sighter and two for score, that's it. You can burn out as many barrels as you like before the match. Now you can shoot the big bores or magnums . ELR might be the closest to this. What were rifles invented for in the first place?

What is so significant about having a spotting scope? Maybe I'm in the dark, but I never see anyone using them on the bench at 600 or 1000 around here and they were allowed behind the line at the tack driver. We could see our sighters at this match, not sure why we would need another scope to look through. This was a great match, no whining or complaining, just a lot of shooters from different disciplines enjoying a couple days at the range. Jim you are awful worked up about a match you didnt even attend. Show up next year and show us how good you are, you win the match and I will personally reimburse your entry fee.

I guess you didn't read the complete post, ... if I ask about using one and was told no it would take up too much time? And was told to stay home..... I use one on ever time I shoot 600 or 1000 and I do ok.... jim

I read it, just didnt understand the purpose. Not gonna argue about it, come on down to Piedmont, hawks ridge, or red, white, and blue and teach us a lesson

No ready to turn 77 , kind of limited now on travel. Maybe easier to come north for the World Open and give it a go..... they give us a lot of lessons.... jim

Instead of changing a match that was perfect except 1 shot, why not hold a spike driver of your own format, put the work and promotion in and let's get it on?
Roy,
That is the easiest question of the year to answer. It is a hell of a lot easier to be a keyboard know it all bandit that criticizes other peoples hard work than it is to be a successful match director!

I am a match director and have been since around 2008. I did attend the 2020 Tack Driver. When I discussed this match earlier this year with Jim we disagreed about some key points in the rules of the match. I am happy to admit that I was wrong and Jim was right. Although I've not competed in a great number of large matches, I have probably competed in as many matches over the past ten years as anyone and I believe this was the best planned and executed match I have ever attended. Jim asked me, after the match, if I had any suggestions and I only offered one small one. He was already aware of the problem and had already determined to change it in 2021. We all have opinions about how to do things and those of us who have the opportunity usually choose to choose our own path. As has been said by others above, if you don't care for the rules of this match it is your choice to plan your own and do it your own way. I have already submitted my preregistration for 2021 and it has been accepted. I look forward to the next one. I haven't seen any complaints from this year's shooters and expect to see the majority of them back again. If you want to be there you'd better get in early.

Jackie, if you shoot an occasional good group with a rifle is it reasonable to think that rifle is "capable of doing that every time"? It's easy for me to think (recognizing that I'm no expert on this) that the rifle might be capable -- but not the shooter. Thoughts?
I might have coined this phrase, or heard it, but it explains what is expected of a short range Benchrest Rifle/Shooter Combination......”the only thing that keeps a shot from following the exact same path as the one before is the conditions you are shooting in to”.
