300 SAUM Imp

I am trying the 300 SAUM Imp after seeing posts from Sam Hall and Tom Mousel. So far, it has been impressive. Alex Wheeler converted my 2K BAT M dual port into a true heavy gun for next year at Deep Creek. Alex did his magic with the ignition, firing pin fall, and spring dampening and put it in McMillan heavy fill LRB stock. We used his reamer for 7 SAUM ADG brass. It required light turning and expanding for the chamber of a Krieger 10 twist barrel. I fire formed with 57.0 grains of H4350 and a 210 berger. It is reminiscent of fire forming the 6BRA, in that it seems very accurate. This is 10 shots at 100 yards.

initial powder choices were H4350, RL16, and Rl23. We ran some intial pressure ladders with H4350 and RL23. The Rl23 did not pressure out, but more than 63 grains was going to need a slower pour or a drop tube. H4350 hit the edge of pressure with a light ejector outline, but no shine or swipe.

RL23 looked good with a node at 61.5 to 62.5 grains. Intial groups for seating at 62.0 grains looked good at 12 ish off the lands. A confirmation powder ladder with a different primer was shot this morning and looks good as well. The smaller group measured 2.8 and the larger 3.7 inches. No work has been done with h4350 yet. Targets were shot at a grand.

Yes, it runs the wsm node with about 2 rains less powder

Its just your basic Ackley improved case, 40 degree .010" tpi. I did however size the chamber specifically for the 7 saum ADG brass which has a smaller case head than Norma.

I haven't shot mine in over a year now, but this was where I left off with 215s and rl16 back then. There were jump nodes as well, but my jam node seemed to be in just a bit further than you tried.



Anyway, this was the first barrel the reamer did, and is a 9" twist Krieger. Due to the fact that adg 7 saum brass is dimensionality smaller than 300 saum brass from other makers, Alex's cartridge should really be called "300-7saum adg" lol...but 300 saum imp works

The one Ted hauls around is impressive but hardly anything I could manage.

They are the target vlds....they don't measure too great, but seem to shoot pretty good.

Rl 26 will really crank velocities, however It didn't show accuracy when I went back the next day. This was like a year or so back. Not bad for a case around 3 to 3.5 less capacity than the wsm.

From your initial ladder I would have tried 62.8. 63.7 looks like it’s on the edge of shooting bad

H4350 does well for me. May try that too
