I've been working on my barrel with hard carbon build up on about the first 6 to 8 inches from the chamber. Soaking, bronze brushing, and JB on a patch with a jag. Very frustrating. Chems used: bore tech carbon, and copper products. Kroil, butches and yes even the highly touted GM top engine cleaner. I just tried the Al Nyhus patch on a worn brush with some GM tec . This so far has been the the most promising. It worked also with kroil but the GM seems a little better. Maybe from all the previous scrubbing and soaking it has loosened some. After 3 applications of short stroking the affected area it almost gone. This will be a regular to my cleaning regiment.Yes I have the Lyman bore cam to prove it worked. Thanks to all those experienced folks willing to contribute their knowledge to help out the less informed. Bruce
I use Mercury power tune. You can get it at any Mercury outboard dealer for about 10.00 bucks a can and it lasts a long time. I soak it for a couple hours and then brush with a nylon brush.
Regular Flitz?Flitz on a worn nylon brush. It also removes the carbon ring on revolver cylinders.
Regular liquid Flitz. Flitz does make a bore cleaner. I have not seen any difference in carbon removal.Birchwood Casey also makes a lead remover/Polishing cloth that when cut into patches also does a fantastic job of removing carbon. I use to shoot stainless pistol revolvers on a regular basis. Getting rid of the carbon burn ring was almost impossible. These two products remove it effectively and quickly. I tested all so called carbon removal products on that .357mag ring, none do a better job. If you shoot handguns try it for yourself, seeing is believing.Regular Flitz?
Carter, How did you use the Iosso paste: patch or brush?I had some gnarly issues with Carbon. I tried Wipe-out-patch out with accelerator, butches bore shine, regular Boretech, Boretech C4, Ballistol, and wipe-out carb out. I wasnt even getting a dirty patch any longer after cleaning with all of these different products. Problem is, I got a bore scope and could see that the throat was still riddled with Carbon. I ordered some Iosso bore paste, and I was amazed at how it instantly got after the carbon. I'm a believer.
Hey Guy'sFlitz on a worn nylon brush. It also removes the carbon ring on revolver cylinders.
Been using it for years and my match barrels have over 1000 rounds through them. Not to be argumentative but my targets and Hawkeye don’t lie.Hey Guy's
Flitz is a metal polish, it is going to remove metal and lap the bore making it smooth enough to now create a copper problem.
also Never use an abrasive on a brush of any kind, we've seen all kinds of damage from this practice. The brush does not follow the rifling and skips over it cutting the tops of the lands.
We have seen almost .002" scrubbed out of the bore by abrasives being used on brushes.

Mark, do you feel that nylon brushes are an issue using standard cleaning solvents?Been using it for years and my match barrels have over 1000 rounds through them. Not to be argumentative but my targets and Hawkeye don’t lie.
