A 17 Lb. 300 WSM Light-Gun can be a handful trying to run 215 Berger's - I found that out @ Deep-Creek at the 2018 Nationals. Takes practice to drive a 30 cal. and "run-em"

in a past life I shot a 300 win mag as a light gun 16.9 and as heavy
I see no reason why a 300 wsm or 300 wm at aprox 22-25lbs will be an issue

I dunno about your logic, if there are 85 percent 6mm and 15 percent 30’s it stands to reason there is more chance of a 6 getting blown off than a 30
I shot a 300 wsm this year btw as well as a 6 Bra, they all get blown around if you miss the wind calls.

it was not one or two
it was 4 or 5 in the one relay no 30 got blown off(as I recall)
its not science..it is WHY I want a 30

If 18lb is ok, then why not go 17 and have option to shoot it in LG if wind is up early? I have a 17 lb 284 Shehane im playing with that I shoot free recoil no problem. Only problem is lack of good bullets.

I like the idea of CLASSES and really like the idea of having a gun in that class, not just pretending.

My opinion is that a lg will out shoot a true hg. Raw group size. Now, a hg has the advantage of allowing you to shoot a 300 wsm and it wont beat you up. Tracking and recoil is the advantage of a HG, make use of them.

I do not agree with this. We have lots of true heavy guns (50 to 100 pounds) and lots of 17 pound guns. The heavy guns always out shoot the light ones in the aggregates. Not just in WSM where the recoil is greater, but in Dashers also. I agree it is not a great amount, but usually at least an inch in a 10 match aggregate. Matt
didn't they just set some new records in heavy aggs with lite dashers/bra's?

Matt Im talking raw accuracy in good conditions. Heavies have advantages in a match relay, tracking and gun handling forgiveness for example. But a good lg will shoot 1"s when conditions allow.

Are you referring to 10-shots (like Matt is referring to) or 5-shot targets?
Myself, for 10-shot targets feel my 54-lb 6Dasher has an advantage over my LT-Gun 6Dasher.
Consistently easier for me to control tracking do to more repeatable return to battery, is my reasoning.

I shot a 5.650" 10 match agg shooting with Williamsport, used my rb,rp LG. Multiple guys have shot smaller 10 match HG aggs here, also with LGs. I know Murtiff broke it as well, not sure what he used. Its smaller in the IBS too, also a LG. My 6 match was a 4.343", so far as I know, still not broken. With the tracking and gun handling advantages they have, they should be dominant. I just dont see it. I think the biggest reason to have one is to shoot a wsm. I prefer a bedded or glued action to a barrel block, I also believe a rifle has to be light enough to recoil. If I was going to build myself a HG it would be built like a LG just heavier.
