Look at an Eliseo Chassis and tell me the difference. That might help me understand.
I did have to install the receiver body and then the bolt.

@urbanrifleman ... well said. For me, benchrest is too equipment based / mostly an equipment race. Cash is king in buying the latest greatest.

*I* am the shooter. I want my groups to reflect my skill, not my net worth.

The first part has some merit. The equipment list is big in order to compete, although you do see a lot of older guns on the line where the competitor is pretty much buying bullets, powder and barrels. You don't need the latest and greatest to compete. Also, competition means different things for different people. Some guys go there more to socialize and hope for the best. Others are there to kick your behind.

The last sentence though, is not true. At the end of the day, it always comes down to shooter skill. If you can't consistently read the wind and keep your gun in tune you won't do well.

This has nothing to do with preference. You stated this:

The above statement simply isn't true. It has nothing to do with preference. Reading the wind has everything to do with it. It is a game of constant hold offs trying to achieve a zero inch group.

Reading the wind is in every precision rifle discipline.. even 3 position air rifle & CMP / DCM rifle and PRS competitiin. Its NOT unique to BR.

I don't "prefer" the $1000 joystick lock down tracking rests of bench rest that significantly remove shooter input. That is my point.

I regularly compete and place top 3 in 22 rim fire bench rest. I would use a rear bag & a bipod if they would let me but they insist on a front sand bag...

I dont like the $1000 + rests of benchrest.

Go ahead and like/prefer whatever you want. And allow me to do the same.

No... I * do not* Need to own a $1000 rest and compete with it to be able to decide I don't want to own a $1000 rest and compete with it.

And NO... I am not saying you are a bad person for preferring that type of competition.

If you have a real interest in learning what BR is, show up to a match. Im sure you will find guys willing to do anything they can to get you give it a shot.

If you have a real interest in learning what BR is, show up to a match. Im sure you will find guys willing to do anything they can to get you give it a shot.

And yes I am quite certain the pure bench rest guys are awesome wonderful people who would probably let me shoot their gun and ammo. I hope everyone understands I am in no way be smirching or insulting them and their choices. It's just not for me.

Its more 3 x 7'. And No joystick, or adjustment knobs or tracking feature, and my stock was not designed to pair with it.

That and I usually leave it at home and just use the concrete bench topped with carpet at the 50 yard matches.

That's the hilarious part…People say I should have 1st hand experience before I form an opinion. I extensively use concrete benches and don't prefer them. Then they call *me* argumentative for that opiniin. When its * them* arguing against my opinion, Which I have formed only for myself and don't care at all and have said nothing about what they choose to do. Lol

A very nice table, the 4'x10' is our table. A lot of heavy wood. WV has or has had a lot of old huge timber.

Tony did win a lot of matches squeezing a bag until arthritis made him go to a Farley.

My initial objection was twofold… both the cost and the front rest that I see used almost exclusively.

1st, I'm not Tony Boyer and never will be. Lol

2nd… the front rest. I am told by people who compete in this discipline that you almost don't even touch the rifle... at least As compared to more a PRS style where you are literally shouldering into the rifle loading the bipod and have extensive shooter interface with it, and the hold matters significantly.

Am I wrong in that assessment?
