Best Trigger for Remington 700

Is Jewel Triggers still the front runner for Remington 700 replacement triggers? I’ve been out of the game for several years and wondering if things have changed.
Who has the best prices if so?

There is no best and many good enough. What do you want it for? Safety required or doesn't matter or just as soon not bother? I suspect but do not know that finger piece design and actual length of pull with actual grip diameter and reach matter more than the brand.

For most purposes I'd say a Jewell is still as good as any- and that leaves open the question of which Jewell? but just as there are any number of actions that share triggers with a Remington there are any number of triggers that fit those actions. Short range bench rest or long range tactical and what weight range is desired? I'm picky about maintenance on a closed Remington style trigger. For my money the original Model 70 or a Mauser 98 has a lot to offer and is the best for hard hunting when I'm driven to exhaustion and not sleeping at home at night.

I'd start with Bruno's who advertise here and finish there as well and not expect to do better than a Jewell for what I might guess might be wanted.

What are you needing it for, hunting or competition? I like the Shilen for hunting or the Jewell for competition.

Be using it for hunting but I want light trigger pull with bolt release and a safety.

I would buy the Shilen. They are offered with bolt release and safety. My hunting rifles are set at 1 1/2 lbs. I've not been able to get all of the creep out of a Jewell at 1 1/2-2.5lbs.

I have fired most of the popular brands. All have performed and felt great. I just recently bought a Trigger Tech for a hunting rifle. I really like it. The fact you can adjust the weight without taking the barreled action out of the stock is a plus for me. Really just take your pick one and you won't go wrong.

My reason for picking a Jewell is you won't hardly a penny when you go to sell it if you're not happy with it. The rest of buying is how much curve the finger lever has to suit the way you shoot and how much you want to spend. There are great aftermarket triggers out there for the very versatile Remington 700 action design!!

A good gunsmith can tune a factory 700 trigger to be plenty good enough for most hunting, if about 2 lbs is light enough, and you don't want to fiddle with it thereafter, for a lot less $ than a premium aftermarket trigger. For walking-around hunting, a well-tuned 2-lb trigger feels plenty light enough for me.

Yeah, in fact most of mine are closer to 4 than to 2. And the geometries of the trigger and stock have a big effect on perceived pull weight.

CG X-treme model 22. It is a fully adjustable 2 stage trigger that you can adjust 1 stage completely out of if you wish. I am VERY happy with the one I run on my Rem. 700 300wsm. I believe it's Jard that make a kit for the Rem trigger that helps it out quite a bit.....I think all the suggestions here are good ones. I just mentioned the CG because it hasn't been.

Trigger tech, jewel, Timney all great triggers. Minus pull weight, I can’t really tell the difference between the three. All break crisp with not a lot (almost none) creep.

I use the timney calvin elites. Could be a big upgrade over the 510s. I’m sure the 510s would be a great improvement over your standard factory trigger for hunting and general shooting.

Ive used Timney, Jewel, Timmy Calvin Elite and TriggerTech triggers on Hunting rifles, and for me the Timney Calvin Elite is the nicest of the bunch.

A good rule of thumb is 2.5lbs for hunting. I don’t know why. I don’t want to find out either so I just follow this recommendation.

Read it on several forums and hunting/shooting magazines. Maybe a gunsmith can explain the reason.

Competition shooters have theirs regularly set at a 1lb or less.
