Best Pricing for Remington 700 Actions?

I buy actions from buds. The actions sold as "action only" have a much better fit and finish than those sold cheap in Kmarts.

Got this comment from another smith. Asked if in his experience the action only action was better than on a factory production rifle. Copied verbatim.

The finish on them is much better than the walmart ADLs and I think they are every bit as goods the production ones. But the come only with a trigger, no recoil lug, bottom metal, mag box, follower and spring. Have used several and they have made up very nice rifles. Hope this is helpful

I believe NSS has complete actions in stainless for around $500 for a LA which is the route I'll go here in a couple weeks.
By time ya get trigger bottom metal spring n follower your in it for around same money.

I thought I should add I talked with my gunsmith and discussed buying a used 700 bdl 30 06 I found. For 50 dollars less than a new stainless action from NSS.
Let's just say he sounded less than enthused!
Hes the craftsman in this and I'm the customer. Who am I to argue with him?
I'll just make sure he has what he needs to do his job, and leave him alone to do so.

I just wish that Remington would take the blueprint for their solid bottom single shot XP100 and write a cnc then let it rip for a few hundred in SS. I have a hunch they might sell more than they think.

It looks like they offer a trued version which consists of squaring the receiver face and lapping the lugs. Nothing extra included like recoil lug, floorplate, screws, etc.

That fee would be incurred when any "firearm" or serialized part is ordered. Plus state sales tax if you didn't pay any from the place you ordered.
The transfer fee is up to the FFL. You can order an action across the counter from me, or your local mom and pop shop and avoid these fees. Shop local, make relationships, we will take care of you.

I expect that the fee would get paid only if one was ordering for someone else who didn't have an FFL.
You can not "order" a firearm from someone who doesn't have an FFL. You can find an individual who has what you want, agree on the price, and do a face to face buy. All firearms shipped across state lines must be shipped to a FFL, whether an individual is a the 'shipper' or a FFL is the shipper. "Order" an action from Buds, Cheaper Than Dirt or wherever, and it must be shipped to a FFL. Those places won't except an "order" for a firearm without payment right then and now. So, you pay for it, and they ship to the FFL of your choice,,,, as long as the seller (a FFL holder) has a copy of that FFLs license on file. If the receiving FFL doesn't charge you a "transfer fee", he is doing the paper work for free. Personally, I don't work for free. I don't do transfers either even though I hold a FFL. It's just not worth my time for the scant $25 that is the norm in my area....

My ONLY complaint about the Remington 700 single shot 40x from Buds is that the lug is not pinned and the bolt handle is not threaded. After much testing I can assure you the 40x Buds action is a far better action than a Walmart gun. Not even close, and you don't have to clean the red loctite out of the threads or hire a gorilla to remove the barrel.

What is a good drop in replacement for the Remington action with a pinned lug, etc etc that is not a Stiller? Does Defiance make one? The Atlas has different threads and bolt face than a Remington and will not work with Remington barrels. I did not know this...

The stiller is just fine for a remington replacement- they work well. And it really doesnt matter what threads they have you have to put a barrel on it either way. 16,18,20,coned bolt, flat bolt, recessed bolt- it just doesnt matter so get the style you like

So is there some sort of transfer fee that Remington pays that carries through all transactions?

I didn't say order FROM someone who doesn't have an FFL, but rather FOR someone [like myself] who doesn't have an FFL. I had a local dealer get one for me [used my CC to pay] and I think all I paid was a transfer fee. So they sold it to me, but shipped it to him. I bought a second action from him also.
