Best repeater action for quick bolt manipulation?

I don’t compete. Maybe once my boys get a little older I’ll get into prs more. For now most of my shooting will be prone or off a bench using a bipod and bag. After drooling over customs for so long I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t think even the best machined custom will gain me any measurable accuracy. If I miss it’s usually shooter error or a bad wind call. So to buy one assuming that, would only leave me disappointed. However I do believe getting the right custom could get me a faster smoother lighter bolt lift and obviously the cool factor. Though I do agree 100% practicing more with one particular gun will help bolt manipulation.

Impact Precision.
I own several Bighorns (OG/TL2) and will not replace them, but... The Impact is super nice and very, very smooth right out of the box.

I do not think the action is what makes running the bolt fast. That comes from lots of practice. Additionally, the more I compete at a higher level, I have been running my bolt slower. Smooth and 100% is the best results. You are not making up any time, but if you have a feeding issue, you lose lots of time.

Man, Rusty's Impact sure was smooth, wasn't it, and it's extremely light bolt lift was even more impressive! As far as all out "feel" of the custom bolt actions I've tried - well I'm looking for an Impact next when it comes build time.

I had a TRG, I'd give that Impact the win over it in feel.

Guess I'll just have to suffer my crappy Mausingfield til then, lol. It does have super smooth feeding, and throw feel, but bolt lift feel is mediocre at best.

But those Bighorns of yours were right up there too!

Greetings,
Step back to the high power XC matches before semi-auto match rifles were around. The Win M-70 ruled. The actions were smooth and the bolt handles were properly shaped. An experienced hand with a bolt gun did not have to wait for an op rod to cycle during the rapid fire stages.
Good luck,
John

Just to throw another 0.02c at the topic - And I have used a lot of actions and I have various favorite's - I'd say pick an action you like , ignore the internet 'smiths and sharpshooters, barrel it in your "most deadly/accurate" caliber of choice and go shoot the crap out of it - you will either love it of hate it ..... rinse repeat.

I've got a bunch of custom action makers pissed at me because I've never encountered a custom SS action that doesn't bind horribly.

So far I believe nothing I've read here re customs.

Meloniting helps.

Have you tried a Surgeon 591? They are not stainless steel. They are chromoly.

A Tikka is slicker than probably any custom or factory action out there. I've though for a long time that a bolt head similar to an ar10 would be nice in a bolt gun. You could have a really short throw, anyway. Still gotta cock it far enough though. Still may be doable. Just what I need...anudder project.

What is it, a Stiller? Nevermind that. How 'bout a Borden Alpine or Timberline? I don't know what I was thinking when I said Stiller.

I love all the Borden actions! Jim and his guys do a wonderful job. I've been a big fan since way before they became so popular. IMHO, his BR actions are the best of a very good crop of custom actions. I loved them from the very first one I saw, whenever that was. It probably goes back to some of his first ones. Way better than his TPE/Nesika venture actions, and they weren't bad.

If I could give you a double like on that, I would. How about five stars:cool:;)
