There were multiple reasons the Winchester Model 70s ruled the roost for match rifle shooting in the old days of NRA Highpower. The bolts were quick and smooth to operate and with the feedcone cut into the breech face no bobbles on the feed either. The Mausers and Remingtons weren’t smooth enough. The Tikka, Blaser and others are smooth but are the ergonomics good?

Is the fn spr a good rifle or stick with the model 70? The McMillan stock is so close to the manners I was gonna get that it could be a winner for me.

Can be somewhat hard to find and expensive, but the Tubb 2000 is pretty hard to beat for bolt manipulation.
I've been using one for NRA XTC matches since 2011 (although I got it in 2007 for prone events until I legged out). Fast, one or two finger bolt manipulation without having to take the rifle out of your shoulder or take your face off the cheekpiece.
One of the reasons for the easy bolt manipulation is the double cam cocking surface.
The Tubb and chassis rifles such as Eliseo allow the bolt to run inside the chassis and under the face, again, contributing to being able to work the bolt while remaining in position.
I have run other actions in chassis rifles and none seemed quite as easy to work while in position as the Tubb.
These are the opinions and perspective of a guy who likes to put on a heavy winter coat and shoot in the middle of summer in the Southeast.

The “smoothest” I have ever felt is a TL3. Own several of them.
If you keep anything super clean and lubed up it’ll work for you. But, that’s not all that practical for anything but BR.

I just got my first ever custom action, a TL3. I'm using m5 bottom metal and it feeds 6.5 creed perfect but, it sure is bindy. With or without ammo you can not cycle it quickly. Also my first SS action. Did your take time to smooth up? Mike

No experience with the 3 but my TL2 cycles real smooth. It also has a few rounds down it.
Yep, you really should break it in a little. I would clean it, lube the bolt with tetra grease and cycle away while watching you favorite shows. I will break in. You will also get the muscle memory on it. Mine keeps getting smoother, 2nd, 3rd, 4th barrel, etc.

Absolutely not. Perfectly smooth from the word go. Absolutely perfect. Are you by chance using a Bix N Andy? They require a special sear.
