Most accurate hunting rifle out of the box

German made Weatherby 300 Weatherby mag. Mark V, second is 308 Remington 5r 10th anniversary. The Weatherby might be for sale if you have tons of cash.😇 Well, maybe half a ton.
That's funny. I have owned a number of German Weatherby's and the ones made in Japan were always the most accurate. I have heard this time and time again by other people who have owned both.

Well, Jim: I only own one, so I have no feedback on the Japanese version. Good to know. I pulled mine out last spring and took it to the range. One shot at 100 with a clean barrel and factory ammo missed the bullseye by 1/2 inch. Maybe I just got lucky.

I'm thinking about getting a Savage 16 Lightweight Hunter in 308. My old body says I should get a light rifle. Can anyone fill me in on them? Barlow

My Lightweight Hunter is chambered in 260 Rem. and it comes in under 7# with a Burris
4.5-14x scope. I've got hunting loads that print under 1" for 3 shots at 100 yards. sav scale copy.jpg

I have some Lapua brass, and a bunch of .308 diam bullets and some good dies for the 308. That's why I'm going that direction. I always thought I would get a Tikka lite, but the ability to switch barrels on a Savage is important to me. Thanks for the input, and more is welcomed. Barlow

Would like to hear opinions on which out of the box rifle is the most accurate for hunting western game? Mule deer & Elk. Will hand load, also will accurize by bedding action and floating barrel.
For me, top four are CZ 22-250, Cooper FireArms .204 VARTARG, SAKO 222 MAG and Rem. 700 220 Swift.

Get the 6.5 creedmoor lwh. I have it and my brother has the .308 recoil is an issue with the 308 and 168 gr bullets

A month ago we were sighting in our hunting rifles on the KD range. At 500 yards, one of the guys in the group fired this.

Rifle: Vanguard Sub Moa, 300WM
Mods: Bedded, APA MicroB, 9/16x24
Scope: Vortex HST 6-24X50
Ammo: A191, Mk248 MOD0
Front Rest: Harris 6-9
Rear Rest: None
Target: SR Repair Center

After sighting in, moved on to steel plates at 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700. The skinny barreled hunter held its own on cold bore and follow up. Surprised some people who were driving heavy barreled sticks on chassis.

No self-respecting rifleman wants a rifle that is accurate "right out of the box." We want to bed and re-trigger them, at the least.

Just put this thread back in the "good old, ignorant days archive," where it belongs. ;)

So, 500.00 rifle, 1500.00 rifle, or no limit. Just out of a box. I am not picking on you but the question is worded like many that appear, too open ended probably to give useful information. Whats yor top dollar limit?

I may have to try a Tikka for a light carry rig after all the praise. I was going full custom but off unsteady rests and for the price Tikka may be all I need.
You'd be, very Happy with, a Tikka IMHO, just don't buy too big of, a Caliber as they are, light weight Rifles for, Mountain, "Hunting" and anything over, a 7 Rem Mag,. kicks too much, IMO !
Been testing the 140 grain Berger, Classic Hunters, in my Tikka T-3 , SS, 24" .270 WSM and getting, 1/2 MOA groups with, 65.7 grains of IMR 7828 , Sammi COAL of, 2.860, Rem Brass, F-215's , using Forster Dies.
I'm hoping that, the Berger's will be, a better, Elk / Moose "Killer' than, the "hard" 140 Accubond's were.
Looks like, I'm going to "shave" about a 1/4 inch off, the group size with, the Berger Classic's !
My .270 Tikka, weigh's, 7 Pounds, 10 ounces ( scoped w/ Burris Zee, steel Rings ) and balances / carries,.. Beautifully ! NO need, for me to, "Build" or buy, anything more, for Big Game !
I have less than, $1,100 "Invested" Total, in Rifle with, Scope !

That post was way back in 2017, I have a few tikkas now and am very happy with them. The 300 wsm is tolerable for a hunting rifle but I wouldn’t want to shoot a match with it for sure.

YUP,. I noticed that,.. AFTER, I posted,. LOL !
Hunting and off, the Bench, I can shoot, a .300 WSM , too !
Couldn't pay me, to "work up" loads, ON the Bench, for one, tho !
When, the .270 win. and .270 WSM's quit Killing chit,. I'll QUIT, Hunting !
They are, "enough Gun" for most,.. "Hunters" with, 140- 150 grain bullets.
My Max recoiling Gun is, a 7mm Rem Mag with,.. 160's !
I / we have, killed a lot of Big Game with, an ole' 06 and 165 Partition's.

I get your point, I bought a Howa 1500 kit gun in 223, mounted a used scope on it total cost under $400 and it shoots 1 1/8" at 300 yards.

I' ve see amazing results with factory rifles today. I'm not saying that custom rifles won't do better but they cost more.

Out of the box , I think Savage is hard to beat ! Depending on budget , I don't think you could ever go wrong with a cooper. Everyone I've seen , or owned shot FANTASTIC ! Coopers attention to detail and classic styling is hard to beat ! But like anything else , you pay for that quality. Truthfully , I believe , their price fairly given the quality of wood , inletting and fit you get. Kimber is another good one , Dakota too.......all shoot extremely well it just depends how much of your hard earned cash you want to part with.
