The Dasher 100 Yard Challenge

Would it be okay for me to shoot my agg with an underwater spear gun? :( As Johnny Cash would say, "How high's the water mama?"

Whatever it takes James! Doesn't the state of Louisiana issue its citizens a pair of those Gracie boots?

But, I would like to see a 100 yard agg shot with some of the 103 or heavier 6mm bullets.

Is that Geraci boots....i.e. the white shrimper's boots as worn by Don Geraci and Jackie Schmidt? Bart, Billy chambers my Dasher barrels with a reamer with .269 neck and .095 free bore. Are yours chambered the same? If not, what is the measurements of your reamer? Thanks, James

That's the the boots!

My current barrel has that reamer but I had Billy open up the freebore with a throater to .130. I've got a new reamer I'm going to try on my next barrel.

Bart I will be going to Bob Davison house to help him and Doug with the new tuners . We will be using your bullets an the Hybrid . We will be doing the tune off the point of aim . Larry

Ok guys here it is. For those of you who have access to a 100 yard range. Go out and shoot an aggregate with your Dasher. That is 5 groups of 5 shots. Be honest with your results. No take-backs, do-overs, slippsys, no cheating or skullduggery or Photoshopping! Just shoot your five groups and see what results you get.

Measure your groups from outside to outside edge and subtract the diameter of the bullet! Add up your five groups and divide by 5 to determine your aggregate.

As a matter of fact take your best gun and see what it will do! Dasher, BRX, 6x47L 6BR whatever you got.

Post your results here!

Bart

Are we using sighters before/during our group like the SR br guys do, or zero sighters once the group begins like the LR guys do?

I shot mine like a Short Range match and used sighters. I haven't wrapped my head around why they don't let you shoot sighters in IBS 600 or 1000 yard competition.

First, there is no room for 2 targets.
Second, Wouldn't do any good because you can't see the bullet holes.

you could shoot at the gong or the clay birds laying on the ground and get a very good idea of what the wind is doing,,just as long as you can see the splash ,,you can hold for a change,,,pretty simple to me,,,that is the truble with the long range events ,,,most of the competitors and organizers have never shot in a real short range benchrest event and have no idea what to do but throw lead,,,Roger

Roger, thats the trouble with short range shooters never shot a real long rang match. You must learn to read the wind and take the training wheels off and learn shoot with out seeing bullet holes…….. Shot both and 1000 yd. is the fairest of them all you only compete with those under the same condition, not the luck of the draw. jim

Good morning Jim,,,since you say that you only compete with those under the same condition you must shoot IBS-1000 where you shoot against other relay winners,,,this is what I dont like about IBS-1000 ,,,I dont want to drive half way across america and shoot a 6" group and loose my relay and watch somone in the shoot off get to shoot more targets than me and the other 80% of the shooters who are there,,,however I do like the IBS-600 format better than the NBRSA because they shoot more targets and 5 shot groups in HG as well as LG,,,and I see the luck of the draw playing a major role in long range events (especialy-1000) because of the snails pace of the relays and usually the first relay of the day is the winners and get the chance to shoot the bragging size groups and world records,,,,even in NRA style long range (especially F-class) the target is "spotted" for every shot,,,I took the training wheels off after breaking 3 world records,,,Roger
Just checkin my hate mail,,,now that I have been told that I have never shot at long range and I need to bark up a tree!!!!!

OK...sighters it is. Things are turning to mud around here, so my range will be closed till it either dries up or freezes again.

Thanks, and GREAT IDEA!!!

Tod

Tod...you can see the "splash" in the muddy ground much easier,,,,Roger

That may be true, but I have a hard enough time walking on dry ground....having feet that are 3 feet square because they have 17 LBS of mud on each one of them makes getting to and from my truck to the bench to the target (and back) a non starter for me. Plus, my renters are fussy!!

I have a feeling that this post/challange will be around for a longtime..that is unless it gets turned into a pissing match and the fourm boss takes it down!! LOL

Roger -
So you want to be be rewarded for shooting bad?
And those who shoot the best and win there relays get no reward?
Yepper, doesn't sound like the IBS-1000 is for you. You want to be as equal as the guy who beat ya...
For in the IBS-1000, it doesn't matter how good or how poor the conditions are in your relay, you have to perform to move on. From which the best performers are rewarded the advancement to the Shoot-Off, to match up against the other relay performing winners. That is shot head to head in equal conditions as well (fair).

It's your right not to like the IBS-1000 format. There are plenty of other disciplines for you to pick from (you've already mentioned others you like). So go do them, and leave us who like our discipline alone. You know, bark up your own tree.... lol

Roger, A snails pace? How can you say this? At Harry Jones or White Horse You will shoot two light and two Heavy gun and be on the way home by 4:00 and you have very little time if you need to clean your guns between relays. If i shoot 6" groups i would expect to go home early and would have no problem with it. Records are shoot through out the day, i never seem to draw many first relays, if any…. jim

Bart had one time at hawks ridge last year that was like 4hrs between targets. Drew first relay then last relay on the next target. Why rotate relays on each target? I can see each day but each target is rediculous

Tom,,,thank you for the honest opinion,,,,I know of your shooting skills and look foreward to meeting you and that bunch-0-shooters in Missoula (sp),,,,I was at your beautiful range ~10yrs ago ,,,met the range grounds keeper ,I forget his name at this minit but he was very gracious and helpful,,I was traveling thru there mid-week on my way to Seattle to visit my son in the Navy,,,,I used the end of the range down by the targets to shoot across the range and sight my rifle in at various distances (gettin my come ups) for the Varmint match at Pieerre (sp-haha) SD,,,,he warned me about the bear that was raiding the garbage cans down there ,,,I said the only thing I was afraid of was NOT seeing the bear,,hahah,,,,,there was an eagle soraring and screeching and circiling above me ( I had the range to myself) and I watched it and lookd at the beauty of that place and enjoyed that as much as the shoooting experience,,,,hope to see U someday,,Roger
