The best wind for testing groups.

Spot on once again Matt. I really believe that is why you end up with a solid agging load more often than not. Even hand picking conditions the best we can, it's still 1000 friggin yards. If it shoots through that crap to get it tuned, then it will keep shooting through it when it matters. At least that's my opinion, witch is worth what you paid lol.

Tom

Tom, you are right but you can see how the wind affects tune a lot closer, you just have to know what to look for. I don't look for water line i look for small in different conditions with the same point of aim…….. jim

Bart, i think they call a string like your boy had a weather report… LOL …. but he kept them in the middle thats a win……. jim

Jim,

You're exactly right. It WAS a weather report! With very little wind. A few more tenths of powder would have shrunk that group. A concept that eludes most!

Would a right or left wind be the best direction when testing for load development rather than a head or tail wind?
What is the worst wind to test in?
Thanks.
I'd say worst I'd a gusty day. Any wind as long as consistent would be ok, though for groups at long range I'd say it depends on the range orientation, distance shooting, etc...

Jim, I think you're missing a zero there somewhere. Not that I haven't shot at 100 with a dasher, just never took my lens covers off:D

Tom

Tom, We have to make do here in testing and matches, we even have to shoot in the afternoon ……. LOL…… Both ways can work…. jim

Shot some of my worst groups at Dublin (MGGOA) years ago on 1st relay in the "calm". I absolutely hate "calm" conditions. Shot some of my best targets in moderate conditions and made some real ear to ear grin shots in some terrible conditions. I prefer to see some wind, otherwise it's all a big lieo_O
Can I get your opinions on Lapua's testing center and how they go about testing 22 LR rifles for what ammo they shoot the best? http://tinyurl.com/zw67cy9

I am guessing that maybe 22 ammo and the speed they run, (Almost subsonic) that they are not affected as much indoors. Most of the 22 shoots I went to were indoors. This is just my opinion and not scientific. Matt

Well I going to test in a 30 MPH 1/4 head wind at 600 YDS . That will be a hoot. Larry
