Your best 6 Creedmore loads

Glad I was turned on to this thread. Building a 6 Creed and hoping to use 110 SMK’s. Please share any 110 experiences.

Will advise on results in a few weeks as this build slowly comes together.

Question: planning on running the 110’s, and .183 freebore, is there any concern in COAL when trying to keep to mag length?
Thanks

Here's a 110 SMK seated to the lands in a .120 freebore.

The irony is that you will probably have to jump the 110s 100 thou plus to get them to shoot so probably not. In the event jumping them a ton doesn't work then youd probably have to jam them. In that case, definitely a problem. COAL at the lands in the .120 FB is 2.880" so in the .183 with a jam you'd be looking at 2.943"...with a fresh throat. Kind of risky, huh? Good news is that DTACs are available, cheaper, .620 BC, consistent, will eat up a long freebore, and very jump tolerant.

Working on a new 6 Creedmoor build

Rifle details:
Brux .236/.243" 4-groove 7.75 twist finished @ 30"

Rem 700 SS single shot action trued, threads enlarged +.010" and fitted with a .705 PTG fluted bolt in .708" reamed boltway

Jewell HVRTS trigger set at 4oz and timed for zero cocking on close and minimal sear engagement. .250 firing pin travel

PTG piloted reamer minimum SAAMI .183 freebore

Load data:
Berger 105gr Hybrids .010 off the lands
Peterson SRP brass 1x fired
Reloder 16 powder 42.0gr
CCI BR4 primers
Velocity 3250 fps
ES 9 fps
SD 3 fps

Brass shows no signs of pressure and bolt lift felt normal. Barrel has a total of 150 rounds down the tube.

It sure looks like cratering on the primers to me. Either pressure or you need the firing pin bushed and or maybe a weak firing pin spring...... jim

Krieger 4 groove 7.5 twist
108 BERGER LRBT they will shoot in the lands or jumping doesn’t matter. Had more consistent results with 7k jam.
RL 23
Rem 7.5 primers
Lapua Brass

Shows a little vertical. However shooting from bipod and small rear bag.

Cratering on the primer itself is not necessarily an indication of over pressure. If you look at the profile of the primer, it is still rounded and bolt lift force was not noticeably increased. As for bushing, the bolt face pin diameter is .0635" and the firing pin measures .0585". This is straight from PTG, surely they would not send me a brand new precision bolt with excessive firing pin clearance!

I guess you answered your own question as I stated if it isn't pressure it is an ill fit firing pin and or a weak firing pin spring. There is one more thing that will do it is a chamfer the firing pin hole. I see cratering this is not normal..... jim

Jim, i guess the sarcasm was lost in my reply back to you. I agree completely and cannot believe PTG sent me a complete bolt assembly with .005" of clearance. However, it is an easy fix to turn down a larger pin to the correct diameter.

Don't believe PT&G is without wrong, a PPC reamer with a .2425 free bore diameter is right?? Talk to someone else on the clearance and check your firing pin spring tension and see if they broke the edge too much on the firing pin hole. I am trying to help you, what see isn't right... Plus you are up in velocity from others on the thread.... jim

Here is my current best load out of RPR

6mm Creedmoor Hornady Brass
41.5gr H-4350
Fed 210M
110gr SMK
Mag length 2.81”
3040fps

I have shot this load out to 1238yds in windy conditions and it works for me.

Anyone care to share their 115gr DTAC loads?

Trued 700 with a 27 inch cm Shilen #5
44 grains H4350
95 grain Sierra TMK
Starline srp case
CCI 400

This load does 3250fps for me and shoots well under 1/2 moa at 700 off a bipod with a cylindrical squeeze bag under the butt. Forgive the lack of exact group measurements. I mostly shoot steel.

In for DTAC loads. Will be running a 26” 1:7.5 with .185 freebore soon. Looking to load these up in Alpha lp brass in either rl 16 or h4350.

24” barrel
115 VLD
Lapua SRP brass
Cci 450’s
40.7 grains after barrel settled in
Did some seating depth at 100 today to see what’s worth trying further out.
2980-2990

I tried running Alpha LRP brass and was blowing primer with the 115's and 110 at just under 3100fps
Went to the Lapua SRP brass and was running the 110's with RL16 @3140 no pressure and was
a lazer.
The 6 creeds nodes run about .6g apart
3080 fps range and again in the 3130-3140fps This one is starting to get warm.
Ended up with the 3rd barrel running 107's Little more consistent and better on components.

Barrel length and charge? I’m also running 115’s in Alpha LRP with RL-16. While i like the consistency of the brass, I haven’t had a piece get past 10 firings yet. Not all that much better than Hornady or Win brass for me...

For another 20 cents a piece I might try Lapua next order.

Is anyone by chance shooting the lighter bullets, 70-75gr range, in their 6mm Creeds???
