How about this load w/105JLKs?View attachment 1060546
Yes sir.600yds???
One of the things I have found almost invariably is, if you use powders at the extreme end of either on the "fast side" OR on "the slow side", your "window" for accuracy is very, very small! It is not that these powders won't work, they will, however, you may very well have a very tight window for your best accuracy. I believe that RL-26, H1000 or powders in that range will work>>>just not very efficiently. You are better off with powders somewhere "around" RL-16, RL-23, H4350 or H4831, with RL-23 / H4831 being the slowest of the powders that would work well in the 6 Creed.Has anyone been having luck with RL26? The projected low pressures and high velocities look enticing!
I bought a 1-8 for My Savage. How much is that going to limit my bullet selection?
It will limit it to every bullet made except the dtac.
Just the 115grain? I have heard others claim it's borderline on others. Good news for me!
Ok, I am back with some info for my RPR in 6 creed. As suggested, I ended up with Reloder-16. I tried 17 and it was ok. I ordered in a 8lb jug of RL-16 and life changed. I am shooting the starline small primer brass with 42.0 gr of RL-16 on both the Berger 105 hybrid and the Hornady ELDM 108 gr.
I am getting 3065 fps AVG and an sd of 13 with the Berger. As a note 41.5 might be a little better in my gun with the Berger at 3030 and the SD down at 6.9. The Bergers grouped .3" at 100 (edge to edge raw) with both loads so either is pretty good.
The ELDM 108 gr shot 3055 fps AVG with an SD of 1.7 and an ED of 3. That's pretty hard to ignore although the group size increased to .4" raw at 100. Still a pretty fine starting point and I don't get many ED's of 3.
My tightest grouping bullet to date is the 103 gr ELDX hunter bullet from Hornady. I have shot 5 shot groups just over the raw caliber with this bullet in my gun.
Note: all the above was on an INDOOR 100 yard range on a shooting bench with front rest and rear bag. This was just to develop loads that have promise for long range reliability. I also worked with the Sierra 110 gr but haven't really got it to settle in at 100 yards. I will have to get this rifle out and stretch it's legs.
I have settled on the RL-16 for the Berger Hybrid and the Hornady ELD bullets. I am at my target velocities for the ballistics I need for out to 1200 yards.
Thanks to all.

temperature insensitivity is great - the hype over cleaning benefits, meh.
41.7 of H4350 in a 23” barrel is giving me 2997fps average with a 105 type bullet.
Cleaning? You should do it on a regular basis. Why? For one the carbon build up can lead to pressure build up. Another is that even s.s. Barrels if not cleaned with in a given time period can corrode/pit! They are not made out of surgical stainless.

Agree - there is no replacement for actual cleaning.
Big shout out to Bartlein who supported the “lights out” PRS event last weekend in Oklahoma! They had guys on site selling blanks at a good price, handing out some t-shirt swag, and donated a couple blanks to the prize table - very generous!
