My 1st job was at a filling station making $1.55 an hour. My first car was a 1963 Mercury Marauder S-55, 390 V8/Automatic.

My 1st new car was a 1973 Mustang Mach-1, 351-C automatic when I was 20 years old. That car stickered for about $4,400 and had every option except A/C. I paid $3,785 for it. That won't buy you much today.

Just celebrated my Grand Daughters 41st. birthday with her mother, my 60 year old daughter but her 21 year old Grand Daughter (my Great Grand daughter) couldn't make it. Still had fun.

My first new car was a 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint. 4 speed and a 260 V8. Rose Beige in color.
Kinda wish that I had it back.
Back in the day we lived in Mesa, Az. We went to a drive inn called the Silver Dollar drive in. Dad had a 50 mod buick and my brother and I set on each front fender to watch the "picture show".

That was and still is one of my favorite early 60's cars. I didn't like the body change in 1964.

I remember when I was a kid my mom would go to Costco and buy a pack of Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) and it had 3 BOXES OF 90 pills. That was the smallest sized they had at the time. My aunt would take a box of 90 and my other aunt would take another and we kept one for our family and it would last us all year.
LOL.... Now thanks to tweeters you gotta show your DNA, first born, last 17 addresses, driver license and finger print to buy 10 pills!!! Druggies F%$K everything up.

When I was a kid, air conditioning was only what rich people had. If we wanted cool, we slept on a cot in the basement. You'd always feel a bug crawling on you or hear a mosquito buzzing around your ear and those D**N crickets!

Had a good friend who's father worked a a Ford dealership here in Albuquerque. Given that the father was a new car salesman he would bring home a new car once in a while. One Friday evening he drives up in a '63 Falcon 2 door, 260 V8 with a four speed tranny. Mom and pop went out for the evening and Pat decided to take the car for a ride. Needless to say he spent the evening doing some street racing and at one point one of Albuquerque's finest tried to pull him over. Now Pat, not having any of that decided to outrun the officer and hauls ass down a main thoroughfare that has a dog leg in it. Taking the turn at a rather high rate of speed Pat loses control into the curb and comes to a screeching halt about 50 yards past the curb. The officer drives up, yanks Pat out of the drivers seat and demands to know where Pat stole the car. Pat explains about his father and his job and at that point the popo starts laughing, hops back in his cruiser and drives off. Pat was a tad bit confused and then looked at the trail of car parts that led back to the offending curb. When Pat went over the curb he left behind the front suspension, the oil pan, all the throws off the crankshaft along with the main bearing caps, a few connecting rod parts, the flywheel, pressure plate, transmission, drive shaft AND the rear end!
We didn't see Pat for a couple of months.

You could buy a new vehicle and delete the extraneous chit you didn't want. Radio delete,, heater delete, etc. Try that now. Not allowed. Instead, you are stuck with all this electronic crap you don't want but get to pay for. I just priced new trucks. The lowest I could find was $45K. You could buy a fully tricked out big block Corvette for $4,500. Pickup trucks were less than $2K. Aaaargh!

Edit:. With all the electronic bs they put in cars now you would think perhaps a cd player would be included - not!

May have missed this in fourteen pages but you know you're old when you remember before going to school or on a date, you loaded up your hair with Brylcreem or Vitalis. Or you remember the successive Burma Shave signs along the road.

I remember Burma Shave>>>but was too young to use it. However, I did use Vitalis! A friend of mine used Brylcream... Wasn't called "Vitalis V/S or 5?" or some such moniker?
