X-Ring rifle stocks

Just got the first one I have had done. It was a pleasure to work with. Inletting was dead nuts. Best wood stock I have worked with.View attachment 981166 View attachment 981167 View attachment 981168

@Alex Wheeler is that dyed maple? If so, did you do the dye'ing or did X-ring? Curious which color that is - it's hard to be certain from the picture itself. It looks like the dye'ing has been done, but no top or seal coat yet. I'm considering some options for a stock finish myself which is why I ask.

I think the owner stained it before he sent it to me. He is doing the finish, I only did the metal work and bedding. Its curly maple, and very beautiful.

He sent these pictures of the rifle after he did the final finish. I'll let you know what dye or stain he used. I have another to do and would like to duplicate the color, its beautiful. 20160618_133637_resized.jpg 20160618_133523_resized.jpg

If you are shooting F-Open, be sure your fore end is the proper width. Up until recently, I believe X Ring was making them at 3" which although close, is still a bit wider than rules dictate (76mm).

After reading your post I measured my Shehane and my original composite Robertson they all measure a shade over 3" 3.03" 3.04". Now I'm kind of wondering how many stocks are actually 76mm .

You are correct to think that many are out of spec. It all depends on how meticulous your gunsmith is. Having said that, I've had three guns done by Speedy Gonzalez and they have all been spot on

Curious if X-Ring is still a fine choice? I’ve narrowed my choices for a new open build down do 3 and X-Ring being one of them.

Yes they’re phenomenal stocks and I have many friends who own them and I’m always impressed with them. I can’t speak to older ones but since it changed hands a year or two ago I don’t know anyone who’s bought one recently that isn’t happy with them.

Thank you Sir. I am glad I asked.

p.s. Please keep doing what you are doing. You, Mr. Cortina and a long list of others have shared so much and I am taking it all in. Thank you.

Call Jason at X-ring. He has all the programs from the original owner and is designing new ones as well. Great guy to talk to and work with. You wouldn't be disappointed.

F-Open and FTR designs. I love mine -FTR .308.
Thank you. I will certainly give him a call.

Ironically I will be calling Zack this week to get my F Open build going. I emailed him last week with my wants / questions and he got back to me, I kinda almost fell off my chair. Amazed with the detailed response and that he took the time.

That's another reason why Zack is growing in leaps and bounds with his business. He always gets back to his customers with answers that have good content and information to help with decisions. And once you shoot one of his builds you realize the man is a true rifle builder in every sense of the word.
