X-Ring rifle stocks

Here's my 22BR Golden Bear Maple/Walnut X-Ring with a cheek height system I designed and added myself. It's a dye and "candy" clear job I came up with using water based poly and powdered dye. I love the Robertson style, it just works.

Is there any advantage shooting stocks that have a low center of gravity such as the McMillian ZR rails vs other designs such as the Robertson style or spear or destiny?

I don't have the exact figure anymore. I want to say a little over 3lbs.

Here it is unfinished with a 30" Brux HV barrel and other parts for reference. It also has the RAD attached but it cannot be seen in the picture.
Very nice! Starting to kick around the notion of a new FTR build, so obsessing over the weights of the various bits and pieces

I've always liked the look of the classic Robertson style, but never had a chance to try one.

If you ever have the stock off the gun and a scale handy I'd love to know the final finished weight!

I can tell you Rick's stock doesn't weigh much maybe 3# at most.
I'm thinking board selection, type of wood used will have a significant impact on overall weight of finished product. 20211209_124212.jpg
I can weigh the Xring I'm currently working on thats a F-open stock tonight after work.
It has higher sides, wider base and a lil bit longer than Rick's, this will give you an idea as to how heavy it won't be if your building a FTR rifle.20220522_143614.jpg

Excellent! I had one FTR build where I had gotten a really good deal on a HV contour barrel, opted for 28" rather than 30 'just in case'... and ended up having to switch to aluminum rings, aluminum rail, carbon fiber bipod... *and* find an aluminum trigger guard for a Savage action (kinda like a unicorn, only rarer), all so I could make weight with a McM XIT. Obviously, the experience left me a little bit wary

A lighter stock, and maybe a lighter action would hopefully give me a little more wiggle room as far as bipod and scope.

Is the last picture a spear of destiny?

The weight really depends on the type of wood used. Mine come in well under the limit, 19.2 kg about 2 lbs under, as configured in the picture, 31.25" x 1.25" barrel.

Fclass John has a recent video showing some modifications to a Xring that was a couple ounces over weight with the only difference from mine being the wood.

If you call Jason I would assume he has a pretty good idea on what different wood configurations will weigh.
