x-caliber barrels

Riesel said:
There is a barrel manufacturer in Kalispell Oregon named X-Caliber barrel maker. Does anybody know anything about this company and had any experience with their barrels? The barrels are advertised as what seems to be a very good quality and are priced rather inexpensive. Let me know if you have had any feedback on this company.

Thanks,

i just got one in a 223 rem SS , its getting chambered and installed tomorrow . guess we will se how good that really are

Thanks guys,

What do you guys think of these small tool marks (I assume) that are perpendicular to the bore? I don't know enough about the barrel making process to know how they got there or if they are of any significance.

Starts a little blurry but starting at second 43 your can see what I am looking at

sorry for less than professional video, best my phone camera and I could come up with.

Dan

Tool marks perpendicular to the bore are usually from the drilling/reaming operations. Not usually seen on high quality barrels that are properly drilled/reamed and then lapped before and after rifling.

Still havent shot my Sako 6XC with the X-Caliber barrel yet, but plan on trying to find some time to break the barrel in and work up a load for it when I get home from work in a few weeks.

Been getting rave reviews back on how accurate the AR barrels are as well so I am having a heavy barrel built for one of my AR15's. It is a Stainless Steel 1" straight bull barrel to a .936" gas block and maintain that diameter out to muzzle for 20"total length with 5/8"threading for a brake. Chambered in 20 Tactical, 1 in 11" twist, 3 groove. Will use a 15" free float picatinny rail handguard with the EGW Bag Rider sled for a more stable rest. If it shoots good enough, I may just sell off some of my bolt gun varmint rifles and have X-Caliber build me more AR15 barrels. A lot easier to pack a bunch of barrels on a gopher hunting trip rather than a bunch of rifles and AR barrels are easy to swap out when they get hot. Plus the 30 round magazine capacities will be awesome in the target rich environments we always encounter.

Will give a full detailed range report with pictures when I get to shooting both of my new barrels.

This weekend i was able to test a new rifle with an X-Caliber 20 cal 3 groove 11 twist barrel. Below is a picture of my first group after sighting in the scope and shooting with fireform loads i could cover all 5 shots with a dime. Barrel also cleans very easily. These are very good quality barrels and i will be buying more of them for future builds.

Remember, groups don't matter unless you have 5 groups on one page.

My point is, a few small groups are shot and the next few aren't small. I do not pay attention to solitary billfold group. I could go through my old targets from 25yrs or so of competition, but single targets mean nothing. Reminds me of the time in New Braunfels at the Bluebonnet shoot. My first 4 targets were agging about .180 and I had a good lead. Last group my first 4 shots were in a .150. I really had a $hit eating grin on my face. Guess what? Yes I shouldered the shot for a .911 group. I went from #1 to the outhouse (21st place) because of one shot. 5-5 shot groups tell the rifle and yeah, the shooter.
I could put together some of my hand picked groups and have a couple World Records, but it ain't the way it is.

When I find a good load, I'll put her them through the paces. Maybe even do a little ladder testing of +/- to .5gr

the group i posted above was shot at 100 yards with a new rifle chambered in a wildcat 20 caliber that i have never worked with before. I basically guessed on a fireform load and went with it. I am an average shot at best so i believe that speaks volumes about the quality of the X-Caliber barrels. Most of my shooting is Prairie Dogs or Ground Hogs and the barrel is exceeding my expectations for the intended purpose.

Wireless how far were these shot at

I was able to get some more testing in today and set up on a concrete bench. Showing some promising results with H322 and 52 SMK. Tracking is non existent in this stock, lol.
