Wilson Dies.. 'How to use'

I've got some wilson dies comming with a barrel I just purchased..,30BR). Until I pick up an arbor press of some kind, how do I use them?? I've "read" about using a hammer.. This sounds pretty extreme, and barbaric.. Could someone please explain??

A small plastic hammer will work fine. You can even just use hand pressure on some applications..


You will really like the Wilson dies.

Kelly, another way to use the Wilson dies is with a normal press. Get a 7/8X14 bolt that's threaded all the way to the head and screw it in the 7/8X14 die hole from the bottom up...in essence, you've 'plugged' the die hole. Then, just set the Wilson die on a shell holder and bring the ram up until the seating cap,or decapping stem) on the Wilson dies contacts the head of the bolt. A little RCBS Partner press or a cheap little Lee works fine for this.

You can also use a drill press and put a bolt in the chuck to press down against the die.

I used the Wlson dies for a couple of years with just a small rubber/plastic mallet. For an arbor press, the K&M is a dandy.
