Wicked Cold Weather This Week

About 12 inches and 15 degrees here now, still snowing near Pittsburgh. I have no intentions whatsoever to shovel the snow. Either I drive over it or a neighbor will get paid to deal with it for me. My back injury is always tenous and I have to try to remember I am not 25 anymore, despite what my wife says! I am off today and tomorrow so I got a big ol roast for today with mash taters and corn, and tomorrow calls for chili (burger, beans and sauce for the unitiated unwashed.. ;) :D)

I will do some work preparing a plan for dealing with protestors at church (I run security) and maybe I will haul out the air rifle and shoot in the basement. Or maybe not.

Grateful to have a break...first Sunday off in 18 months! Take care everyone!
In your gun room, the rifle, 4th in from the right, has some dust in the barrel. ;)

Started snowing at 0700 this morning and already at least 3" on the ground, it is 9* and that might be the high for today.
At noon I'll go out and shovel a path for my old dog(12.5). I already made a big pot of vegetable & beef soup to warm up when I'm done. Will probably go out around 4-5 o'clock to snow blow the driveway, half assed job until morning when I'll open it up to full width, that will eat up the morning.
Not all that long ago I would be out on the snow mobile going all over the neighborhood, but those days are over.
Everybody impacted by this storm be careful and be safe.
I just shoveled the walk for the dog again, the driveway can wait, at noon hour there was about 10 inches now 5 hours later there was another 8" and it is still snowing at roughly 2.5-3" an hour and that may last for 4 more hours before it slows down to 1/2" an hour for 4=5 hours.
This 74 year old is getting tired of this, with 10 screws,2 rods in lumbar and brand new shoulder will be complaining tomorrow. Not me just all the replacement parts.

Many years ago my mother would tell me stories about Northern WI HAWKINS< WI area, she would go to school in a horse drawn wagon with a woodstove in the middle of where they rode to keep them warm. Also showed me pics of a big Caterpillar with a tripod built on it so a person could sit in a chair 10 feet about the Cat doing the snowplowing to tell the driver where to go. Ill try to find that pic. Things were just a norm back then.

Last night here in NW FL it was in the 40s, we had and interesting light show of lightning bolts with 50-60 mph winds. This morning everything was soggy, the rain guage had 2" of rain in it and was frozen solid. Not a bit of frost on the ground, must have been a tough night for the outdoor critters.
