Wicked Cold Weather This Week

When the blizzard of 69 hit NH on opening day od deer season, I was on the north side of a mountain, hunting, wind got up to 50 and the snow was coming down so hard you could not tell if you were going up or going down for the mountain and the valleys. I knew there was a bowl top on the mountain with a swamp on top of that mountain. About that time I heard the first close rifle shot and felt the earth trimble, I had read the short story about the widow makers in the NE Woods and how scary they were. When the tree tops start coming out of the big spruce trees. In a blizzard you are blind. I knew the swamp did not have big trees inside it, so that is where I headed by dead reckoning. I got to the edge of the water and headed right out into the waist deep water. Live or die, cold or not. By the time that day was over and I had found my car, I had had enough. I moved back to FL shortly thereafter. I got to see 100 inches of snow in 24 hours and never wanted to see it again.
What don't kill you makes you stronger. Hooked onto my enclosed trailer yesterday at -10*. Wife and I headed out to help our granddaughter move.

Started snowing at 0700 this morning and already at least 3" on the ground, it is 9* and that might be the high for today.
At noon I'll go out and shovel a path for my old dog(12.5). I already made a big pot of vegetable & beef soup to warm up when I'm done. Will probably go out around 4-5 o'clock to snow blow the driveway, half assed job until morning when I'll open it up to full width, that will eat up the morning.
Not all that long ago I would be out on the snow mobile going all over the neighborhood, but those days are over.
Everybody impacted by this storm be careful and be safe.

Hey Josh, low last night was 70, high today 78, I do love Peru. Even in winter the lowest it gets is 60 here in Lima. Going to the beach today, got me a local made board.
Hey Capt. Dan! You’re living the dream, down there! Can you send us some pics? I envision crystal blue waters, white sand beaches and string bikini clad goddesses!

We had three inches of snow last night, 14” up high, perfect weather for looking for lion tracks. Should be cold enough to keep the snow around till Tuesday or so. We cut a big lion track a couple weeks ago, I sent the location to a good friend who has some great dogs, hopefully he can find it again. He’s out looking now.

I’m in the White Mountains of Az.

It’s 15 degrees here at my mom’s house. Perfect timing for the water main at the road to break yesterday. One foot of water in her basement, I’ve got two pumps pumping plus the sump pump. The county has been digging the road and her yard up all morning. Good times!

40 miles northwest of San Antonio and 16 degrees . I’m ready for summer heat.
good texas boy

“Snowflake”, if I remember correctly. Always thought that was ironic, knowing you’re not.

About 12 inches and 15 degrees here now, still snowing near Pittsburgh. I have no intentions whatsoever to shovel the snow. Either I drive over it or a neighbor will get paid to deal with it for me. My back injury is always tenous and I have to try to remember I am not 25 anymore, despite what my wife says! I am off today and tomorrow so I got a big ol roast for today with mash taters and corn, and tomorrow calls for chili (burger, beans and sauce for the unitiated unwashed.. ;) :D)

I will do some work preparing a plan for dealing with protestors at church (I run security) and maybe I will haul out the air rifle and shoot in the basement. Or maybe not.

Grateful to have a break...first Sunday off in 18 months! Take care everyone!

My neighborhood right outside of Charlotte looks like somebody performed a French manicure on all the streets ! Pure ice.
I put a light bulb in my well cover just to keep it above freezing for the next couple days.
