Why so many Magnetospeed Chronograph in the calssifieds ?

No only tried it a few times and gave up. Plan to give it a solid try soon. 100 degrees here so will be a couple of weeks. Is it possible that the full version has a better strap than the Sporter version?
Call MagnetoSpeed at 512-284-8161 and talk to them.

Straps gotta be really, really tight. I shot through the strap when it slipped off a few times. I now have a roll of strap material (it's cordura).

I have a Magneto speed (sporter) which was flawless and with my big bull barrels I never saw any change in group size or POI. Despite that I bought the Labradar from MidwayUSA thinking it may be more accurate. I sent the Labradar back. It missed too many times with my high velocity 20 cal bullets. Also the user interface is a PIA compared to MagnetoSpeed. I'm sure when the bluetooth becomes avail the user interface won't be as big of an issue but getting up and down every time to create a new series sucked.

that is not true...at least 4300 fps, likely much more

must be a different one than I have because it has shown over 4300 fps on mine...my unit does not have this listing of specs either,...maybe the newer units have that limitation, or mine is an anomaly but it reads highter than 3900 fps by a wide range...the main calibers I shoot are 204 Ruger and 22-250 Winchester...the velocities I record for these two are 3500-4300 fps

I don't why you are having such a problem, I have used a MagnetoSpeed for several years on numerous calibers and barrels of different diameters and have not had this problem. Have you called Magnetospeed about this?
probaly the strap.i replaced mine.no more problems

Although I also bought a LabRadar I kept my old (non-Magneto) Chrono so I could still check my shotgun shell reloads.

I have no desire for the Lab Radar. The Magneto is just so easy to pack and set up and works great. I don't care about velocity until the rifle and load is tuned and shooting good. Then the magneto straps on and has ten rounds fired through it for a good average. Speed is what it is. All the speed in the world doesn't matter when it shoots terrible. I think too many people get hung up on velocity. Hitting what you are aiming at is far better bragging rights than how fast it's going.

I am going to give my Magnetospeed sporter model a go one more time. If it keeps falling off the barrels, I am done. I am interested in the LabRadar.

That is what happened to me. Despite my attempts to get a tight fit, the straps loosened and the device vibrated to the portion of the barrel cut for iron sights so it tilted and got shot :( Happened twice :( Should have used hose clamps.

So got a Labradar. (Still have the Oehler just in case.)

Well, a few times so shooting, i had my MS sporter on my 300. Apparently it scooted toward the muzzle with each shot (i did not notice). The last shot didn't read, so i looked at the magneto. It was on the ground and the strap was blown in half. I'm guessing that the strap area was directly under the muzzle , then whammy. Luckily, the rest of the unit is fine. So until i can get a new strap, this is working, hahaha.

At my home range, I have to shoot through 40 foot long 4 foot square cement tunnels and LabRadar said that due to reflections, this may also be problematic for their unit, but so far it has appeared to work fine. When I got my first Chronograph, you had to shoot through two plates that shattered and broke the electrical contact. No issues with optics as on some old style units today, but every shot you had to replace (and of course pay for) a new set of plates. Things have come a long way.

The Magnetospeed V3 is a better product. I had the "Sporter" and then got the V3. I am much happier now.

I have the v3 too. never misses a lick. when doing load development I dont care about vel until I find the sweet spot. My only bitch with the magnetospeed is that it seems like the buckle is backwards or something. It seems like you are working against the buckle to cinch it tight before using the screw. oops maybe I'd better look at mine again to make sure it wasnt put on backwards at the factory and I am an idiot!

I like it also because it is small, not delicate, and fits in my range bag. I dont use the box it came in. I keep the rest of the parts and spare battery in a bullet box with a heavy rubber band.

The strap tightens when pulling the tag end upwards. Always make sure the screw is well backed off (maybe 6 full turns) before tightening the strap. Then get final tightening with the screw.

Never tried just pulling the strap upwards without pushing on the latch. I think your way works the way it is designed! thx
