If you don't mind doing things the hard way. Why not a 25-06 or 6.5-284? Much easier to get reamers, dies and there's no case forming/ fireforming.Seems like this would be a good cartridge just the way it is. Ordering parts to build one now.
Comments please.....
The 6.5x57mm has been a popular cartridge in Europe for many, many years,,,,,,, since like shortly after 7x57mm was intoduced! RWS still loads ammo and has brass. The 6.5x55mm is more popular here, in the US, because of the Swedish Mauser imports of the past. Another route is the 6.5mm x 257 Roberts, straight or improved. Not that .257 Roberts brass is any easier to source right now.Might be a fun project 6.5 x 57mm. It may have been done before.
Yup,.. Lapua Brass, "Blown out", a Bit for LESS Taper with, a 30* or 40* Shoulder would be, My choice,.. also !From a brass availability standpoint, the 6.5x55 is a much better choice. Lapua is the best and you can regularly find them. However, the case rim runs about .480 and depending on your action, you may have to slightly open the bolt face. Mine is on a mod 70 Win push feed and didn't need any clean up.
With the modern powders, RE 19&23, you can get very good velocities out of it.
The BJAI maybe? I had to strain my brain. Losing cells fast.Yup,.. Lapua Brass, "Blown out", a Bit for LESS Taper with, a 30* or 40* Shoulder would be, My choice,.. also !
Could also run, H-4831 SC,.. very, effectively.
Velocity is, slightly LESS than, a 6.5 PRC ( For better, Barrel Life ) with, 6.5 Creedmoor,.. Accuracy !
Has been Designed already ( 30* ) but, I CAN'T remember, the Cart's,.. Name ( IT's, a Winner, tho ! )
You went the long way round saying "why not just get a 6.5 Creedmoor"Well...why not 6.5x55 and save the grief? Or just get a .260. Better brass.
Seems like this would be a good cartridge just the way it is. Ordering parts to build one now.

The 6.5x57 was a very popular round, and the rimmed version is common in break actions and drillings.
Lately x57 brass of any sort is not real easy to find. If that doesn't scare you & it's what you want, go for it. Huntington's has been known to stock RWS brass & ammo.
I've got one similar. 6.5x55 GWIMight be a fun project 6.5 x 57mm. It may have been done before. So I'd look around to find some info before committing to the tooling & set up. That said my Buddy & his wife use an improved 6.5 X 55 Swede it is called the 6.5 GWI
"George Wilson Improved" they do well with it & it has decent barrel life about 2000 rds.

@ Moondog,.. THAT's,.. the ONE,.. I like, BEST !I've got one similar. 6.5x55 GWI
I was under the impression it stood for
Greg Walley Improved. Either way, it's a shooter
GWI@ Moondog,.. THAT's,.. the ONE,.. I like, BEST !
Thanks,.. I couldn't remember, the CWI part.
IT'll be,.. my NEXT,.. 6.5
The 6.5 X 55 BJAI is good, too ( Has, the 40* Ackley shoulder ).
IMO, the 6.5 X 55 CWI should be,.. a Factory Round !
I've heard, IT's that,. "Good" !
