Why isn’t Varget ideal for 6BRA?

I have shot 6bra... 12 years now? Something like that... Before that I shot 6br for 25. Also been shooting the 22bra for 5-6 years now.

To say Varget doesn't work in 6bra but is a standard GO TO load in 6br (and is over rated), is just... well... misinformed...

Tanner Burrows just set a record this weekend (perfect 25x) in Oklahoma shooting 6bra/Berger 108/N150 (if anyone wanted to know)---I wouldn't want to be "off topic".

N140 is essentially the doppleganger for Varget and loads are basically interchangeable. I would say there are a ton of guys shooting N140 and N150 in their 6br/bra rifles these days and doing quite well.
N140 is definitely NOT interchangeable with Varget. N150 is much closer. N140 is faster.

Curious, why didn’t Tanner set that record with Varget? Was he perhaps…. misinformed like myself?

I don’t cash checks from ANYBODY but I can tell you that with very few exceptions, Vihtavuori just makes better powder.

So, with Vihtavuori at $300 a jug to the house and Varget at closer to 460, what word would you use to describe Varget?

If I were going to pay Hodgdon prices, it would be for H4895, which has the pedigree to justify its price tag- in the BRA.

I think this depends on the powder lot and barrel twist/length. With a comparison of Varget vs. VV-N140 in my 6BRX VV-N140 is really close to the speeds with Varget with Bart's 103 and 105 gr. Bullets. Did not try VV-N150.
Could be. Could be the size of the case also. I doubt there’s much difference in a slow lot of N140 and a quick lot of N150.

I would agree on lot numbers making a huge difference in speed, checking some notes and granted I may have a slower lot of N140 but at 31.4 I noted 2874 yet with 31.4 gr of Varget I noted 2939, both using 1-8 twist Krieger
Interesting enough the target results were nearly the same.

My lot of N140 hammers with Berger 105 or 109’s
I’ve not found a load in Varget that has come close to N140. The builder of Panda/krieger 6BRA sent a 100 rounds with His tested loads at 600 & 1k
Of Varget in Lapua ff brass. I was not happy with results
So loaded up Berger 105 and 109’s with N140 in Alpha brass and never looked back.
The photo below is a barrel I’m testing from Bradley urban rifleman

That’s about the same powder charge I found a usable node. ( 31.4 - 31.6 ) under 103 VT, I would not be afraid to compete with N 140 if the barrel wants it.
I have at least four powders for a BRA, I have no problem testing them all in each new barrel.

Hell ‘ IMR 4064 will hammer in a BRA at over 3000 fps.

N140 = Moody but exciting girlfriend. A little faster than Varget. When it's on, it's on and it feels good!
Varget = Older woman. Handles temp changes pretty well, knows how to deal with shit. Solves a lot of problems.
N150 = A little slower and bulkier than Varget, but will never let you down. Doesn't care about temperatures unless it's extreme.

The data no one asked for:

AR-Comp - More people should talk about AR-Comp. AR-Comp is the CIA agent girlfriend that can fight anyone, go fast as hell, love you day or night, and will do anything for you. Loves you long time in temps from 25 to 125

I like your descriptions. What kind of lady is H4895?

AR comp is like Fight Club... The first rule of AR COMP is you don't talk about AR COMP.
