Why Has the Manatee 1000 yard Gong Shoot Never Been "Cleaned"?

Larry you will always have the money thing, doesn't matter if it's racing or shooting. Some believe it is money when most times it is the driver. Rules are put in place to try and keep the field level. Most times the rules dont change much from year to year. The problem comes when guys don't know the rules and build something that doesn't comply. Usually it is weight. Or they try and push the rules in the gray area. The rules are the same for everybody. Matt

Matt, dont waste your breath. This has nothing to do with rules or money. If rules killed matches how come you guys get close to 100 shooters? Even us out in the middle of no where will get 50 in august for our championship match. F-class has rules and its huge! Theres just as much money on the benches at manatee as any other club. It comes down to Larry's hatred of me. Thats it. Thats what its all about. If I hated Benchrest he'd love it. If you have not noticed he lives in the past and seems to have an unhealthy obsession with me. Half his posts seem to be about me in some way or another. When you have a person at a club or on the job with a hateful negative attitude they bring everyone else down. That attitude is like cancer. And Larry would bash the rules and matches to anyone who would listen. He got all of his friends to boycott. And in the end he killed the matches. There was never any banning, there was LG and HG, all guns where welcome to shoot in the class they fell into. There are world class shooters near Manatee that wont go there because of that mentality. Its sad, but it will eventually change for the better.

Well guys, another thread hijacked to talk about IBS rules at Manatee. I have not watched closely due to the very handy ignore button. Keeps my head from exploding:D Below are the facts.

1. Steel matches: 600 and 1000, the only rule is nothing above 30 cal. Other than that "completely open". Rail guns allowed if you have the "b--ls". How simple is that?

2. Paper matches: At 600 and 1000 are shot under IBS HEAVY GUN RULES. The IBS HG rules are about as forgiving as any in the world.

Thanks Captain Mal for talking about how some shooting sports being hard to get perfect.

I dont hate any one.
Yes your not high on my list of respecting you .
If you can find anyone that I ask to boycott the shoot Send me their names .
I know 15 or more that have bad feeling about you . One in particular stand out .
You keep saying you can
But we did it and your say it is wrong
The past was good and we have proof
Talking in the past we had NBRSA with some of the best shooters ever many are World
Class . The Last two shoots the didn't have 20 shooters .
We had that many on a normal week shoot.
Thanks to you we can't get 6 now .
I guess I'm a bad person . Larry

Steve, I just employed that ignore button... things are much better now :)

I think if you set up gongs at the 600 yard line just behind the targets you could use them to sight in for the Benchrest match as well. Shooting Br and gongs would be a pretty long day. 4 target in LG 4 targets in HG then a gong match. I guess depends on the attendance and how many relays you have to run. I like the 600 yard format, I think most there will enjoy it. Aggs are nice in that one bad shot doesnt hurt as bad....

I read fine...............
Have series doubts about your reading ability as well, especially when often your replies are off topic and almost always wrote with illiteracy, that at times are even beyond comprehension.

If miss spelling and poor grammar were awarded, you would hold all the records to them. Have never seen anyone do as piss-poor job at both then you do. Then there is the "used car salesman" mentality you put into many replies, falsifying facts and making statements loaded with misconception.

Personally I'm extremely happy Larry does not want to shoot or be part of the IBS and/or benchrest !.!.!
His type mentality and disrespect is proven destruction to unification.

Is it wet at the 1000 yard line yet? I've been getting quite a bit of rain up here in North Florida.

You have shot there quite a bit. Why don't you chime in.

Seems to be a bit of animosity among.some of the regulars down there. I guess most of the shooters visiting never see that side of it.

I hope to get down there soon.

Don,

About a month ago Manatee had a dozer make an elevated drive to the 1,000 yard line along the left wall past 600. Should be drivable in the wet as everything is set to now drain to the right. Next 1,000 yard match is July 1st. Will see then if it's passable as reconstructed.

Not 1,000 but all of our 600 shooting will now be on the back benchrest range. We have 16 covered benches there and will be all to ourselves. Both IBS paper at 600 and gongs at 625 ( up against the backstop) will be shot there. We are right now in the working stage of setting that up. Hope to be done by late Thursday.

hate to say ... weather permitting.

It is unlikely I will ever come to Manatee to shoot, and the reason is it is way too far from me. So I have no ax to grind, nor horse to break. However, i do spend a bit of time reading this forum and have reached two conclusions regarding manatee.
1) I notice when I read about it, the members or regulars there seem to want others to shoot there and talk it up
2) In nearly every thread about it, there is some controversy, sword rattling, apology framed in a disclaimer and a rant, or stream crossing pizzing match.

Now that is just an observation, and I am sure it is a great range/club with lots of fun. But if you really want to draw others, take a good hard look at who and how it is being presented to the casual observer who might want to give it a whirl, and maybe place that crowd on litter detail, not public relations.

It would do all of us well to represent ourselves and our clubs with less bravado and rattling, and more grace.

Well put. I know for a fact that kind of stuff is long gone at Manatee. It only exists between Savagedasher and myself mainly. And neither of us even shoot there anymore from what I hear. I have got sucked into it more times than I should have and for that I apologize to the members there. It wont happen again as I can no longer see his posts :). It really is a great range and is getting better all the time. I do think you will see registered 600 IBS matches there soon, but we'll see.

Nobody has done more for shooting them me Do I support a IBS shoot 100 %
Will I shoot it probably no
But their is many of shooting sports at the range I fully support haveing that I don't shoot .
If the range is safe go for it it .
I still have reservations that range is safe.
Shooting 600 yard paper and gong I feel can be done safe .
Other use of the range Is still in question because of safety issues

There was a time a couple years back where I was very interested in possibly attending for winter get away's, but have since relinquished those inclinations. Primary reasons being;
1- the descriptions by a few of the club members of how poor and excruciating the wind/mirage/heat/ conditions are there, isn't appealing.
2- mostly interested in "paper matches" for LR, and would only be interested if nationally sanctioned matches were held, so that there would be guarantee against discrepancies in rules to rifles & equipment, and for unified procedures & format to be used in holding the matches.
