Who's Going to the CA State Long-range Championship?

Any advice on where stay?

Any of the places by the freeway are ok, David. If you want to spend some extra money, stay at Harris Ranch. Regardless, have at least one steak dinner at Harris Ranch. Coalinga is California oil and cattle country. You'll feel right at home. ;)

Here would be my choices. Harris Ranch is obviously the best, but it's also the most expensive. It is located on the SE corner of I-5 and 198, about 15-20 minutes from the range. I have stayed twice in the Best Western. It has very nice rooms and free breakfast, and is the middle-priced of the three. It is located on the NW corner of I-5 and 198, catty corner from the Harris. The Travelodge is the least expensive and is located directly next to the Best Western. Several folks stayed there a couple years ago and it is a "no frills" place, although the rooms seemed ok. I was previously told by several people that staying at a hotel right in town would be unwise...I'll leave it at that.

I stayed in a motel in Coalinga. I guess it wasn't that bad. but let's say that everything, including my rest went into the room with me AND I had a sleeping buddy with me that carried 17......10 friends with her ;) damn CA....

That sounds consistent with what I was told...which was basically that there were known to be some gang/crime-related issues in town. I didn't personally see any evidence whatsoever of this, but I didn't spend a huge amount of time in town, either. It may have completely been heresay. Of course, the big advantages to staying right in town are being much closer to the range, and proximity to stores, restaurants, etc. Roll the dice, take your pick, and enjoy the match!
