That’s a straight up business gun.

Roger that !

THIS “fixed sight “ “ N “- frame .357Mag, was preceded by my use of a fixed sight M-58 frame. That revolver was configured w/ the factory .41Mag barrel lined for .357” cal,
an M-28 cylinder, thinned trigger guard on Rt side, smooth combat trigger; and a semi-bobbed hammer that left a small thumb spur area. The revolver also had a set a Herrett’s “ Jordan Trooper “ stocks… that I gave an enhanced speed loader reliefe/thumb rest on left upper stock area…. using a Dremel & bit. Again, the slicked action and all other metal work was performed by Dave Schwarze.

The custom M-58 based gun was lighter than the M-520 I previously described, by
some 8oz; as I recall. I spotted an old M-20 @ a pawn shop in Tulsa, but passed on it; due to the exhorbitant $$$ they were asking.

The next step up in passive recoil control on the M-520 I shoot now, would be to have an under lug added to the barrel. It would be relieved to accept the ejector rod, and would certainly add some additional useful wt.

I am switching soon to use of a belly pack style of carry, for when strong side belt holster carry is sub-optimal.

357Mag

Keep in mind the only thing the new Python has in common with the original is the looks. All of the internal lock work is different, probably sturdier. What made the original desirable is the custom work. It was hand fitted and the trigger was hand worked to get that glass smooth finish and light single action pull. The result was a great target gun. It was not great, almost horrible, for fast double action work. Such 'abuse' caused them to go out of time and they would need gunsmith work on a regular basis. While I really loved the Python I inherited, I'd not buy another.

I am one who has had two nice Ruger's. SP101 and Blackhawk. A friend has a Security SIx that I've fired a lot. They all had nice triggers, not great, just nice. They were well fitted, but, they were also made when Bill Ruger was still around.

If I were to get a revolver today I'd look at S&W first. Their lockwork is proven, you can go from super light snubbies up to the huge ones. Their cost is reasonable. I have not owned one for various reasons.

Whatever you buy inspect it carefully. Unless you get into the higher priced stuff like Linebaugh's, then quality is not what it used to be. At least check the cylinder gap/face and trigger. Check the bore to make sure rifling is even and the barrel sights line up properly. From forum posts the mfgs seem willing to fix issues, but, that takes time, sometimes a lot of time.

FWIW, if on a budget I'd also look at Taurus. I've had two of them, 1990 era. Both had great triggers. The 805 had to be disassembled and screws secured with locktite. It was their first small .357mag. The 85 was a great little snubbie. Again, carefully inspect before purchase.

I haven't shot a rifle since 1978. 100% handguns. Who needs a rifle: 16,555 groundhogs/rockchucks, 2918 deer, Dangerous 7 of Africa, brown bears, moose, elk, etc. I'm perfectly comfortable with my handguns.View attachment 1720704View attachment 1720706
