Where does the cost come from?

Looks like eley won the KY state tournament Sunday. May be coming around.

Eley also won the IR Sporter 10 shot Indoor Nationals (Red box) and the IR 3-Gun Indoor Nationals (blk box) in April. Thing about all this is, IMO, if Lapua had as much of their top tier ammo in the country for sale as Eley does, those results in big tournaments could possibly be different.

I'm new to this sport and myself and 49,999 other shooters are also.
We're all looking to buy some Lapua Midas+. Does anyone have any information on where we can order just 1 case for each of us?
It’s out there, you just have to have the right supplier and be willing to wait awhile. Look up Shooting for Perfection. They take back orders and fill them as ammo becomes available.

Dismal results with both the Eley Match and the Eley Tenex! Groups of .740" with the Match and .725" with the Tenex! So far I'm blaming the shooter (me). Most of the dispersions were vertical, and there was very little wind from 4:00 o'clock, so I'm blaming the shooter (me)! Last time the Aguila $3.00/50 was doing better than THAT!

Fortunately I still have two boxes (of 50) of Tenex and one of Match, so there will be another chance to redeem myself and give the ELEY another chance. Maybe my shooting abilities are going down the drain...

Maybe I've reached the limits of my equipment?

Lilja $505.00 barrel in my future? Nah, don't think so.

Pending further shooting....

I haven't read thru this entire thread, but have you shot SK or Lapua yet from your rifle? I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet before I've exhausted all of the better ($$$) match ammo types. ;)

Update
Ok since I started weight sorting a few weeks back I have two Second Place and last week my first match Win Yahooooo... It May be that the extra confidence has helped as much as the actual sorting? I had mentioned we stumbled into a great lot of Red SK--after sorting- it is doing better in three of our rifles--I have yet to test the outliers as a group to confirm anything
This lazy holiday wkend was perfect for sorting. What a crazy hobby

Easy Peasy just get in touch with any Lapua supplier and place your order. Now getting your order filled is another matter, may take a year but you will eventually get your case of Midas.

I was getting into the 100yd prone, and got my Kimber.82g...bought a case of fed 900b on sale...sure wish I'd bought more....my Kimber likes it..you know the stuff with the dimple.

Having been to the Eley factory in the early 90's the daily batch that an individual operator could load in a day was about 6 cases (30,000 rounds). The batch would be tested and put into a category based on how the ammo performed. Top being Tenex, the botton Club. So The max cases in a lot of Tenex I ever saw was 5 cases. Not sure what they do now. The very best ammo I ever saw was Russian Olyp-R . Back in the day my Son shot a 200 20x 100M Mertic prone at Camp Perry and none of his shots broke the X ring. He had to challenge his target for insufficient shots but the backer proved all were there.

What I would do is find a supplier who will sell individual boxes of ammo from different makers?lots and try them in your rifle. What ever shoots to your satisfaction buy as much of that lot as you can afford.

REALLY weird results. I'm by now attributing EVERYTHING to user error, but will lay down some numbers for whatever benefit there may be in the info.
Took my CZ-455 and a Clarke Ruger 10/22. Fired 10, 5-shot groups each of ELEY Tenex ($25/50) and Federal Auto Match ($3/50) out of each rifle. Discarded the first 5-shot group out of each ammo choice. Measured and averaged the remaining 9 groups and then did the same using only the best four groups of each.
CZ-455: ELEY Tenex= 9 group average .788". Best 4 group average .673". Federal Auto-Match= 9 group average .732". Best 4 group average .618'

Clarke/Ruger 10/22: ELEY Tenex 9 group average .756" Best 4 group average .375". Federal Auto-Match= 9 group average .964". Best 4 group average .713".

YES, on the CZ the CHEAP Federal Auto-Match beat the ELEY Tenex! On the Ruger the ELEY shot better than the Federal, and the Ruger out-shot the CZ with the ELEY, but the CZ beat the Ruger with the Federal Auto-Match. ????

This is SOOOO out of past experiences with both these guns I'm blaming the phases of the moon or something equally out of my control. I'm just going to stop wasting money in expensive ammo for a while until I see if I have a curse of some kind. I'll shoot something else for a while.

Both these rifles were shooting MUCH better last summer. Yhe CZ around .475" and the Ruger around .675" with just about anything.

Also, i'm getting some cataract surgery late July. Maybe that will fix it.

The CZ redeemed itself ! Went back to ELEY Benchrest Precision ($15/50) and managed an average of .474" for 14, 5-shot groups. Using the best 4, 5-shot groups, the average was .325". This is better than anything I've managed with ELEY Match ($20./50) or ELEY TenEx ($25/50) .
So there is a limit (at least for me) as to how much better more expensive ammo shoots in my CZ-455.
I'm happy with the under 1/2" performance.

Both the Aguila Super Extra (and Standard Velocity) and the Federal Auto-Match are holding up in the under .750" range. Which is OK, considering their $3.00/50 cost.

Now I have to play with the Clarke/Ruger 10/22 some more and establish some new benchmark.

PS. BTW, it's 100 degrees here today.

My two most accurate competition rifles a Walther KKM and a CZ 457 Varmint both shoot RWS R-50 the best. Right now that brand is unobtainable locally. This has forced me to try other brands and so far Midas+ and 10X have not impressed me in the CZ. With a change in my tuner on the Walther I am getting almost the same, but not quite, accuracy with 10X. To be fair there were some lots of R-50 that didn't shoot as tight as the 10X lot I tested. I personally have never had any other brand compared to the R-50 or this lot of 10X come close in accuracy. I will continue to search, but can't wait to get my hands on more R-50.
