When will the Lapua Brass drought end?

I have always used Lapua brass for anything I thought had an expectancy of accuracy. Most factory barreled rifles got domestic brass. As I read this thread I thought what an opportunity to embrace an American brass company like Starline. I go to the Straline website and look at the list of rifle brass and they offer 59 different chamberings of brass. OK. then I figure out they have a dot system that shows in stock , backordered and out of stock items. Out of 59 rifle cases they only have 8 in stock. I will assume that this is the same at ADG, Atlas, and Peterson also? Colt told the world many years ago that they cared nothing about selling to civilians and wanted only military contracts, and that and greed is what is fueling this shortage to the best of my knowledge. And some/many of the companies that are out of stock are just caught up in the shortage and can do nothing about it. The only company that I know of that has rejected this big military buying over civilians, is PSA and they claim that they started the company because one of the owners could not find a rifle when he got home from military service. Colt after they spurned the civilian market some finished their military run and went on hard times, they have tried to get back the civilian market that they threw away. They never have regained the civilian market and have been in a financial hard time since. I hope we can see who is working with us and who is not, and support the ones that do and the others not so much.

If Starline shows backorder on brass, you will receive it promptly after backordering.

I dont understand the pause on all these popular cases honestly…I get that 6BR and Grendel are low volume, compared to military requirements, but is Lapua a big military vendor for ammo?

If they are still at full production volume, where is the brass/ammo going? Ukraine ain’t really shooting it, are they?
Have you been watching any news? Finland and surrounding countries are a bit worried about Russian aggression. They have realized their military stockpiles of ammunition are low and are directing their production to build up their supplies. I certainly can’t blame them and I’m not going to whine about short supplies for my “recreational needs”. Take better care of what you have, look for alternatives or shoot something else, while thanking your lucky stars you don’t live next door to Russia!

Ummm yes I watch the news, and I am asking how long will that take to replenish those stockpiles? They have cut us off for a year now.

The original announcement was on Nov 2022.

So, if this is the new normal - that is fine, just looking for an update.

Mining regulations (leases and labor issues) are inflating brass prices. As will the land use regulations coming with the 2030 globalist agenda.

After years of frustration with Hornady and Winchester, and a complete lack of ADG, I bought 100 cases of Lapua 300 Win for $179.00.

I am not looking forward to load development with .300 Win... Rest assured I won't be risking any of these with high-pressure loads!

Down to one box of .223 so no.

My .223 match ammo is now 11 times fired.

Thx DLT
FYI - I find the Norma (Swedish version) .223 Rem brass to be a reasonable substitute for Lapua in terms of precision. Others have been using Starline .223 Rem or 5.56 NATO brass with success. Both brands have been available with some regularity for the last year or two and may serve as substitutes until such time as Lapua becomes available again. In my hands, both brands require a bit more prep around the primer pockets/flash holes up front than Lapua, and the case voumes differ so loads will need to be adjusted accordingly. However, precision with tuned loads is every bit as good as Lapua, and the price is substantially lower.

The Finns share a border with Russia. You can't blame them for not focusing on competition shooters.

I was a anti Lapua for years based on price. But once you go with Lapua, just about all other brass is second at best.. With the cost of primers and powder, you get a better value with Lapua because it just last longer, and shoots better. Now if your shooting a bang bang semi auto ar15, then any old brass will do.

It could be the flash hole size. In 6ppcc the smaller flash hole has proven more accurate by those who have tested it.
