Lapua 308 brass, when is enough?

DennisH

I have app 200 rounds of Lapua 308 brass with app 15 firings on each round!

I inspect the brass with every loading, primer pockets are still tight, no cracks noted.

I mainly neck size the brass with a FL probably every 5th round.

QUESTION:

I am putting a new barrel on my 308. Do you recommend I still use this brass are start with new?

If your new barrel is cut with the same reamer as the last barrel you could use that brass at least to start with.
If not I'd toss it and buy some new Lapua.

Danny

No, not the same reamer ???

It's hard to just "ditch" the brass.

Maybe more comments will come through, or suggestions of what to do with the brass!

Thanks, Dennis

If the brass is still good Id fl size it and use for load development. then get the new brass for use exclusively for the new rifle. $.02

Dennis,
I think the big question is what are you using the rifle for? hunting, casual shooting? then I would F/L size and continue to use for the life of the brass, if your competing I wouldn't even use it for load development, I definitely wouldn't toss it at any rate you or someone could find a use for it.

I agree with Bozo, if hunting, use it -if comp, set aside for some other use - do your load work with the brass you intend to use

i did the same thing swapped barrel then f/l resized brass still going strong not sure how many times it been used i check it after each firing .same here i neck size and f/l when needed about 10 firings did the same thing my 223 lapua brass i use a bushing die to neck and f/l resize.

Just wondering why you would not use the old brass to get close to a load, and then confirm with new brass of similar quality?

Lapua 308 with 15 firings may be a little different from what they're shipping now in the blue plastic boxes. (I'd take me four years or more to shoot 200 cases each 15 times but I know folks who could do that in a month!)

I bought 200 new Lapua Palma cases this year for my new Palma rifle. The first 200 have 3, maybe 4 firings on 'em & are gonna be re-shaped for use as 6XC.

Target practices and match's equals about 180 rounds per month . . . 8)

I can't remember the last time I bought 308 brass!
