I have a friend who harvests walnut and maple trees, slabs them, and air dries them. He also has a pantagraph machine. I have a pair of four year old 95% inletted Bastogne walnut blanks finish drying in my shop. They are mirror twins, that is, they were from each side of the stump center cut. The grain mirrors the other one almost identically. I got a deal by gambling on the outcome before the saw cuts were made and paying cash; but it was still $1800 for the pair. I also have a pair of unpitted 1909 Argentine Mausers, and most of the stuff to build a 6,5x68 and 8X68 Shuler hunting rifles. They will be classic Len Brownell-style with all the trinkets; think NECG catalog fantasy fulfilled. With luck they will be done in October. Lord willing, the doctor will release me to travel to Africa one more time before I am too old to enjoy a last hunt with a good PH friend in RSA.
