What's the dumbest thing you've done today?

Yes, I've seen the after effects of that! At the Tech College I was at, one of the Machine Shop students did just that and was smacked so hard that his face was so swollen that you could barely recognize him! That's why multiple lathes are lined up staggered rather than in line!
Tell him he's lucky,
My buddy's son went to train to be a machinist, within 1 year one of his fingers got ripped off
I did not ask how it happened like if he was holding a ribbon of curling metal coming off and got pulled in by his jacket... or what
Because I know he must feel dumb
It feels weird shaking his hand, but then again I dont want to treat him any differently.
He's a welder now
Just lifting my Big 4 Jaw on ....I respect the reciprocating mass thats going on there

Fired up the lathe and wondered what that rattling vibration was. Here's the answer - when you leave a cleaning rod in the muzzle and run it at 1000 RPM, it tends to flip it around and bend it! Now you're asking, "What the heck was he doing with the rod in there in the first place?". This is for my Palma gun and was throated for 185s, so I'm shortening the breech and rechambering for 155s. I had run in a Stony Point gauge to see how much I needed to cut off and had to knock the bullet out. If I drank, this would be an appropriate time!

I pulled an uncharacteristic stunt this morning.

I had to drive over to Port Neches to measure some Shaft Brearing, but had to stop off at San JAc Marine on the way to take the size on a lower rudder bushing fit.

I used those darned Starret inside mics, the one that uses the 1/2 inch spacer. I called my brother and told him to get a piece of CIP material that will make a 9inch ID X10 1/4 OD bearing. The only problem was, I had the 1/2 inch spacer in the mic head. The real reading was 10 3/4.

I hate those darned mic’s that use a spacer. image.jpg

Anyway, I was lucky, the supplier had not cut the material yet, and I caught it when I got to Port Neches.

That piece of material cost about $1200.

So even after 60 years doing this, I still have to double check myself.

Had an expert Bench Rest shooter convince me I needed a $40 rail to add weight to my bipod. Found out that my existing bipod would not connect so I spend another $33 for a conversion unit. Yes I could take off the rail but now (I convinced myself) I had two systems...am I more accurate.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I got you guys beat three ways from breakfast. I am teaching my nephew how to reload. I have a 25-284 being built at a local guys. He needs two or three rounds with a good medium load to check his chambering.
I set the nephew down at the bench, show him how to bottom the FL sizing die, and had told him to get the proper shell holder off the rack and slip it in the ram. He test fits one in the shell holder, and pulls the handle.
Then pulls the handle down hard. Did I say HARD??? Rips the rim off the case, and sticks it in the die. Can't loosen the decapping rod and remove it. So, now I get to take the die over to the gunsmith and get him to remove the case...
I am still trying to ascertain what this ____________ (pick your own expletive here) shell holder fits.
