What's this?

Nothing wrong on the chamber end and not cutting that end off. It looks nice. But the pitting that goes for an inch has gotta go too. Customer said cut it off, so I shall. Only an inch to get rid of everything, so not a huge deal. I may post pics of the pitting as well. Not mentioning the bbl maker. Not even sure I know, but the owner may have said. I do think he said it is a cut rifled bbl and it looks like one, so that's all I know really. That ring piqued my curiosity though. Just not sure how it could get there other than an indicator and that seems unlikely too.
i thought you said u were cutting chamber off— my mistake— so the pitting is/was in muzzle end?.

I'd be inclined to blame it on a pilot of some kind except that the mark is in the grooves also.
Again, very weird. Can't fathom how that could happen apart from an long-reach indicator with a knife edge point. Even then it would be hard to do and why would anyone use an indicator like that?

Dial indicators do leave marks. Its nothing measurable just surface finish. Alot of times you wont see them because the reamer and crowning process removes that section of bore. But they are perfect circles this ones got some wiggle in it. But its not what Id call a scratch.
