What scope for bull barrel Ar 15 for coyotes within 150 yards.

I bought a Vortex Strike Eagle. It looks like an ACOG reticle. Power range is from 1-8. I think most people over power themselves for close in shooting. It is illuminated and a 30 mm tube. For the price the optics are very clear. For close in that is a real nice power range. The dot makes it faster to get on stuff. At least for me. Will see how Much I like it very soon.

1.5x5, 2x7, 3x9.

I use a 3.5x10 leupold

A lot of "what is best" depends on how good your hand and eye coordination is. If you have done a lot of shotgun shooting, then you will pick up running targets easier, and forget stopping the coyotes for a perfect shot 100% of the time.

Your 4-12 will be good place to start of with, always start a stand with the power on it' s lowest setting. If they are way off, you can always turn it up.

Watch your down wind
don't sit upwind of your tracks
use an attractant if legal
carve a hole in a bush, sit on a stool, breaking up your outline
wear a face mask and camo gloves
Camo your gun
You and your hunting partner wave at each other before you sit down when not sitting back to back, so one of you will not get excited and shoot the other
expect multiples
Do not slam the bolt home on your AR and wake up the country side! They can hear that bolt release for 500+ yards
Don't slam the truck doors
Whisper and use hand signals
When you kill one, start the stand all over again, blow a wounded pup call
Don't hunt during a high pressure front, scout
during a full moon, hunt from 10am to 4pm
Don't blow a howler unless you know the coyote language

Good luck

I am considering a new scope for my Stag model 6 AR. I have other long range coyote hunting rifle such as .204's and a swift but I am wanting to set the AR up as a close range calling gun. [Under 150 yards] I had a VXI 4-12x40 on it but I had to send her off for a new barrel and have it off now. I was considering putting it on either my varmint sf swift or an lvsf .204 that I have coming. Just curious what some of you guys are using for this application.
Nikon makes the AR scopes. Lower magnification in those models would work fine and even fine for twice that range. Great glass isn't necessary and they are very economically priced.

I do a lot of coyote calling all around the west I have two favorite power of scopes on my rifles, the Leoupold 1-4x20, great FOV, and very fast to use as it is very forgiving to eye location when mounting the rifle. I use them on all my combination guns and one bolt action.

L-461 222R leupold 1-4

1926 Drilling 16/16/6.5x58R 1-4x20, still a Sub MOA shooter at 200 yards with this scope.

My second favorite is the 1.5-6x40 and have them by Burris, Sightron and Alpen on my bolt guns.

Sav. 22-204 Sightron 1.5-6x40

For me FOV is where it is at on coyote calling rifles.

The reason for all the butt bags is all the combs are too low and they have pads in them to raise the height.

Have you looked at the Primary Arms 1-6?
The reticle is set up for 223 and a moving target.
While it's not as nice as my other optics the 1-6 I have on my 7.62x39 does the job.

Lots of good scopes mentioned above. At a 150 yards you have limitless options. I have several scopes on my bolt actions I use for calling, I always use a variable that can get the power down.

1-4, 1-5.5, 2-7, 3-9, 3.5-10 are some of the power ranges. I like the really low powers for those close shots, especially if you’ve been busted and they are running.

On my AR, I only use one for calling, I have a primary arms Platinum. They are expensive, 1400 bucks but Ebay sells them listed as blemished. I found a blemished one used for 500 bucks and the thing is built like a tank with a graduated reticle for 223. I like it. It’s also made in Japan and backed up by a solid warranty. I’ve never found the “blemish” and it’s taken some serious abuse without changing POA.

A 1.75-6X Leupold is a great application for targets of that size and distance. You really don't need tonnage of scope power.

With a 1x up to almost 2x you can focus with both eyes at the same time. I love a good 1x4 scope. 4x and good glass can still headshoot a squirrel to 200yd
