Scope Recommendation for Deer Hunting

I ended up returning the S1G2 1.75-5 what seemed to be slight fisheye on the lowest power and barely noticeable on the bench became more distracting as the brush seemed to bend around a coyote when tracking it. The tech at Sightron pulled another off the shelf and said it had the same problem and refunded my money all other Sightrons have been stellar especially my Sightron II 1.5-6x40 that has been killing coyotes since around 2006. It is one of the last scopes I'd sell.

I have an older leupold with the Boone & crocket reticle which I like a lot for deer .

Thanks again for all the great comments, very much appreciated! I’ve decided to go with one of the new Gen 2 S1 Sightron scopes in either 1.75-5 or 3x9 with duplex reticle. As I mentioned previously being a veteran I can receive a 25 to 30% discount. I have a Sightron SIII 8x32, an SIII 10x50 and most recently a Sightron PLR 8x32 and very pleased with all of them.
I do like the Sightrons. And if you have an issue you can call and get customer service from a live person which makes a difference to me these days.
A good while back I sighted in a Nikon 3-9-40, inexpensive versio, on a cva muzzleloader. It was clear and the bdc dots were dead on. Sorry I don't remember cost as it belonged to a customer.

I've killed a truckload of deer (and coyotes) with a 77/44 with a disco'd 1-4x Leupold shotgun/muzzleloader scope. Usually keep it on 2x while hunting. Crank it up to 4x to shoot steel out to 150 yards with holdover. It's never failed me, everything I've pointed it at died.

I have a 1-4x Leupold ...don't like it, compared to the 2-7X a lot better option, clearer, more light, better accuracy, faster target acquisition for me, So 2-7X is perfect...hunt on 2X with a duplex or turn up to 7X to identify how big the racks is or if it's a legal buck...mounted on a 338 win mag, 2-7X was all the scope I ever needed..the hunting combo used for many hunting seasons.

Cabellas has an exclusive model that is a pretty good buy for a deer scope. Its the burris fullfeild e1 with a ballistic plex reticle and a 30mm tube 3-9 power. All of the burris lower cost options are pretty good for the money in my opinion but the 30mm tube models seem to track very well, were most in this price range or even double it do not. That would be my pic. If you want something lower power, natchez has some blems that are a illuminated burris tac30 1-4 that comes with an ar mount and fastfire3 red dot for a little over 2, you could easily sell the red dot and mount and get into the scope very cheap. I bought one of the blems but haven’t used it yet so I can’t comment on quality

I would do the Sig Buckmaster 3-9x50. Euro Optic also has the 3-9 x 40 Banner on sale for $49.
I have a 3-9x 50 Bushnell Trophy on my CVA 44 and a 3-9 x 50 Leupold on my CVA 35 Whelen

One key thing on a CVA be sure to remove the factory base clean the holes good the lock tie reinstall and torque.

I used Weaver Grand Slam steel rings on the 44 and Burris Z on the 35

My nephew just recently purchased a Vortex Crossfire 2 rimfire model in 2-7x. I was shocked at how clear that scope was. Esp for under $150.

Sighted in my CVA Scout 44 mag today with the Sightron 1.75x5 scope. Was using some hand loads with Hornady 240XTP bullets and Alliant 2400 powder. Only went out to 50 yards however 3 shots touching at this distance. Was very pleased with how the rifle/scope performed.
