What scope for bull barrel Ar 15 for coyotes within 150 yards.

I am considering a new scope for my Stag model 6 AR. I have other long range coyote hunting rifle such as .204's and a swift but I am wanting to set the AR up as a close range calling gun. [Under 150 yards] I had a VXI 4-12x40 on it but I had to send her off for a new barrel and have it off now. I was considering putting it on either my varmint sf swift or an lvsf .204 that I have coming. Just curious what some of you guys are using for this application.

I use an old 3x9 and have no issues hitting them out to 300 and lucky shots much farther just know your bullet drop at those distances and compensate accordingly for wind.......DEAD DOG DOWN

Very Respectively

OP,,,,just like everything else it is what YOU like,,,,but ,,,I like a Red dot or Tru-Glo type sight,,,the tru-glo has various reticles or a dot and either red or green ,,,I like the red in the daylight and the green at nite,,,for 100 yds and closer it is quick and EZ to see in dim light situations,,,and dont forget you are shooting a machine gun(not a varmint rifle),,,lots of firepower for x-tra shots,,,,,Roger

For less than 150 yards on coyotes: I would think your 4x12 would be perfect. You don't want a lot of power. If your 4x12 is spoken for on another rifle, perhaps a 3x9 would do the trick.

a reflex sight with a 2moa dot would work well, gives a nice large field of view, is light weight, and works day or night. sightmark makes some decent stuff for the price.

I sure love my 3X9X42 Redfield BZ with that TAC-MOA reticle and for200 bucks its hard to beat the glass. JMHO

I shot quite a few coyotes with a straight 6x Leupold. Great all around magnification and worked flawless on my AR platform. Most all of the coyotes I shot with it were running and under 200 yards. That was my runnin and gunnin rifle.

for the money this can't be beat. I have a few and they are very dependable.

I recently put a 2-12X nightforce compact on one of my a/R's I use for coyotes and I was apprehensive about it as most of my A/R's have big barrels and even bigger optics. I was pleasantly surprised at how great things were at even 2x. I think your existing is good. If the need to replace is there, I'd opt for a scope in the 2x10-12X by any good manufacturer. When one is running at close rasnge, the very low power setting is great, yet you still have some power to get you out there so you have a bit more flexibility.

2.5-8 VX3 on my AR for Yotes, and a 3.5-10x40 vx3 on my 223 bolt. Both coyote killers. Had the 3.5-10 on my AR and longest kill with that rifle was 363.

What you have will work very well. This one truly comes down to what do you want to buy or like to try?

I nice red dot with a 3x magnifier would be very handy.

I started hunting coyotes in the middle 70's with a 4x Bushnell. A bunch of them, "yellow eyes" were closed forever!

I use a Redfield Revolution 4-12 with the range finding reticle. I love the reticle, but I don't think the glass is as good as my VX3's. Seeing you already use a 4-12, I would stay with it. Barlow
