Sightron is my vote. You can get a 8-32x56 for around or less then 800 bucks. Never had one problem with any of the scopes I have from them.

Try here. bronoshootingsupply.com Brono's seems to beat most prices on leupolds. He also sell many other top name brand scopes. Check the site out and look at what optics he has listed.

I have an old Sightron 3-9x40 and a Zeiss conquest 4.5-14 with Rapid Z-800. I know the Sightron I have is their SI II model and the SI III is likely much better quality. The Zeiss...far superior to MY Sightron. I have been more than impressed with the quality of the Zeiss and their Rapid Z-calculator on their website. For hunting applications I like the hold overs. I am considering having Zeiss install target turrets for range use. IMHO, I'd get the Zeiss. If you can, find a place that carries both and look thru them. Insist that you look thru them outside. In the store won't cut it. If the guy behind the counter balks, tell him you'll take your $800 somewhere that will let you take them outside...escorted of course.

ZEISS!!!! I didn't believe it when everyone told me they were clearer than leupold either. A friend of mine bought one, he kept bragging about it. We both had same power scope, mine a 3.5-10 VX-3, the ones supposed to bring in every bit of light possible, so I finally looked thru his. we went out one evening, sat on the deck, and periodically looked thru them, as late as you could see. an hour after dark, you could still see the cows in the field beside us, 300-400yds away, with very little moon light. I got tired of listening to him rub it in, so I went inside. He could still see. you can tell a difference in the day, especially looking in the woods. In fact, right now I am trying to trade one of my leupolds in on a zeiss. the 6.5x20 I have owned and liked a bunch. Another friend had me buy a scope for him once, and I told him I was buying one as well, decided to buy the Zeiss instead. He told me to compare them, but he would take whichever one. both brand new scopes, a leupold 8.5-25x50, w/ 30mm tube, compare to the zeiss 6.5-20 w/ 1" tube. I compared them periodically all day, then again at night. He got the leupold. I have looked at the SIghtron scopes, and unless they have changed a ton, I wouldn't consider them, but hey, I was wrong once before.

Sightron redesigned their SIII scopes sometime in 2008 - if you haven't seen or looked through one since then, you're missing out. Nothing against the Zeiss, but I've had nothing but good results with the five SIIIs I own (one 8-32x56, four 6-24x50s). My only wish is that they'd offer these scopes with a reticle something like IOR's MP-8 - two of my 6-24s have their mildot reticle, and I'm not fond of it.

My first vote would be for the Zeiss also. I think they can make a blind man see! If you think the Conquest is nice look through the Devari, their high end scope. The Conquest is made here in the US. Their flag ship models are made over there. For 800 my next choice would be a used Nightforce 42X target version. I own the Sightron 50x and KNOW the glass is better/brighter in the Nightforce. The Sightron is about as clear as my old Elite 6500 which you did not like. I don't think it was too bad for the money.

Leupold, Leupold, or Leupold........Your choice. you can get a good used 6.5 - 20 or 8.5 - 25 x 50 LRT for south of $800.00

For under $800, I would also highly recommend taking a look at the Clearidge Ultra XP5's. Excellent scopes for the money. Very hard to get anything better in the price range.

OK, I'll throw a curve....Trijicon. I love the one I just put on my Sig556. I also love my new Sightron 8-32 SIII.

Looked thru a Haako the other day, they are nice. Very clear and crisp. They are in your price range. Lifetime Warranty.

Nothing can beat the Sightron SIII 8-32 or 10-50, but the 8-32 would come closer to your requested price range. The clarity is exceptional that is why they are used so often by the BR crowd and F Class shooters in this price range. No brainer :)

I've got a SIII Sightron 8-32x56 with 1/4 dot in the classifieds $650 TYD

I'll even throw in a money back guarantee, minus shipping, check it out for a week and if you don't like it send it back in the same condition you received it.
